Some normal people will have some edema in their bodies at ordinary times. Many people don’t care about it. They don’t know what’s going on and have never thought that it may be caused by some diseases, especially the edema of the lower limbs. There are many reasons that can cause edema in the body. Some are caused by diseases, such as liver disease, heart disease, kidney disease, and endocrine disorders. Some people find that they have edema in their lower limbs and become very worried, not knowing what is going on. Some people are also aware of this and are afraid that it is caused by some diseases, especially common heart disease and kidney disease. Let us now understand the causes of edema. Symptom 1: Some middle-aged women, after getting up in the morning, suddenly find that their faces have become fatter, their eyelids and faces are slightly swollen, and the skin of their lower limbs has pitting edema or tightness. It will gradually subside as the day goes by. Diagnosis: Idiopathic edema, or edema due to poor blood circulation. Facial edema often occurs in people with poor blood circulation and metabolism. This group includes people who are accustomed to drinking a lot of water before going to bed, people who often sit for a long time, people who usually have heavy tastes in their diet, people who often stay up late, and people who are born with poor metabolism. The resulting effect is that the blood circulation system becomes less effective, and there is no time to excrete excess waste water from the body. The water is retained in the capillaries and even seeps back into the skin, causing swelling. This swelling will gradually disappear automatically after you move around for a while after getting up. Symptom 2: Some people, especially those who are overweight and inactive, often suffer from inexplicable lower limb edema due to the temperature difference in the environment in the hot summer. The edema will disappear on its own after the summer. Diagnosis: reactive edema. This situation is often caused by the hot temperature causing the expansion of blood vessels on the surface of the body and increased arterial blood flow; the expansion of superficial veins increases the capillary filtration pressure; coupled with standing or sitting for a long time, body fluids accumulate in the gaps of the loose connective tissue under the skin and return slowly, thus causing lower limb edema, which is more common in obese or older people. Symptom three: Some people who are accustomed to eating heavy food often experience lower limb edema. Diagnosis: Edema due to malnutrition. We have always emphasized a "low-salt" diet, but some people just don't pay attention. When there is too much salt in the diet and a lack of certain minerals, it can easily cause nutritional imbalance edema. If you have any chronic diseases, the trouble will be even greater. Symptom 4: When standing, walking, squatting or sitting for a long time, you will find that your lower limbs or feet are "tight". Women are most aware of this when shopping. If you take a short rest or change your body position for a period of time, the swelling will decrease and disappear on its own. Diagnosis: postural edema. In recent years, studies have found that when a person is in an upright position, the secretion of aldosterone in the body increases, which can cause temporary water and sodium retention, thus causing edema. Some people who have to stand or sit for long periods of time at work, such as school teachers and surgeons in operating rooms, are prone to edema below the knees due to gravity, which slows down the return of blood and water. Symptom 5: Some healthy women may experience mild swelling of the eyelids, backs of hands, ankles, and even lower limbs a week or half a month before their menstrual period, or may experience breast tenderness, a feeling of heaviness in the pelvic area, as well as symptoms of neurosis such as irritability, anger, insomnia, fatigue, and headaches. Diagnosis: Premenstrual edema. This type of edema is mostly related to changes in the menstrual cycle and endocrine function, and is a normal physiological phenomenon. When menstruation comes, the amount of urine increases, and edema and other symptoms will gradually subside. Symptom 6: After taking certain medications, swelling may occur on the face, hands, and feet. The swelling will gradually subside after stopping the medication. Diagnosis: drug-induced edema. If you use drugs such as adrenal cortex hormones, testosterone, androgen, insulin, thiourea, licorice, etc., it may cause water and sodium retention in the body and lead to edema. Do not be careless about edema and be sure to find out the cause in time. There is no need to worry about the above-mentioned edema, and there is no need to use medicine indiscriminately, but if it is caused by an illness, the primary disease should be actively treated. If you experience swelling in both lower limbs or other edema phenomena, don't worry too much and don't take medicine blindly. If the edema is caused by some disease, blindly taking medicine will also cause other effects. You must check in time to see what the cause is. You may wish to compare it with the reasons we introduced above to see what is going on. |
