What is the cause of high aspartate aminotransferase

The liver is an important organ in our body for metabolism and transformation of substances. If the liver is damaged, it will cause great harm to our body. In daily life, there are many causes that can cause liver damage, such as mechanical damage to the liver, the influence of pathogenic microorganisms, etc. And because the liver is in a special position in our body and lacks sensitive nerves, by the time we discover liver lesions, we have already missed the best time for treatment.

Although liver lesions are generally difficult to detect, the liver is an organ with transformation functions. It can secrete special transaminases. When there is liver disease, we can check special transaminases such as alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase. Below, let’s take a brief look at it.

High levels of alanine and aspartate aminotransferase indicate liver cell damage, which is commonly seen in various hepatitis, cirrhosis, fatty liver, alcoholic liver and other liver and gallbladder diseases. However, some external factors can also cause a transient increase in aspartate aminotransferase, such as exercise, eating, drinking, staying up late, and medication (antibiotics are anti-inflammatory drugs, but cold medicines are not anti-inflammatory drugs, they must be distinguished, but whether it is cold medicine or anti-inflammatory drugs, taking them may cause high aspartate aminotransferase). These situations should be ruled out and the patient should be rechecked. If the aspartate aminotransferase continues to increase, further examination should be performed, such as testing the two-pair-and-a-half test for hepatitis B, to determine the cause of the high aspartate aminotransferase and provide symptomatic treatment.

To sum up, we can see that aspartate aminotransferase is a special transaminase secreted by our liver. When aspartate aminotransferase is high, it may generally be caused by liver disease, but we cannot rule out other physiological factors. So when we find that aspartate aminotransferase is high, further tests should be conducted to avoid misdiagnosis.
