Congenital brain cysts

Congenital brain cysts

Symptoms such as congenital brain cysts can cause the baby to develop slowly and have low intelligence. This is mainly due to the influence of fluid accumulation in the brain. Surgery is needed to remove the fluid in the brain so that the baby can live a normal life. Regarding the problem of congenital brain cysts, it is most likely caused by an impact on the fetus during its development in the mother's body, and the baby needs to be well cared for after treatment. Mothers can learn about this.

Congenital brain cysts generally refer to subarachnoid cysts. Most of these cysts do not have any clinical symptoms and are discovered accidentally through some imaging examinations, such as brain CT and brain MRI. There are several things to pay attention to:

First, if there are no clinical symptoms, no matter where the brain cyst is located or how big it is, surgical and drug treatment should not be performed. However, regular check-ups are necessary, such as CT or MRI every six months, to see if the brain cyst has grown larger. If so, surgical treatment can be considered.

Second, if there are some clinical symptoms, such as headaches and compression symptoms, then you need to pay attention at this time and consider whether surgical treatment should be performed. You can go to the neurology department of a regular hospital and let the doctor make a judgment.

Congenital brain cysts generally do not affect a person's life span. There are no clinical manifestations. Many patients are discovered accidentally during CT scans or MRI scans of the head, and may not have any symptoms. For example, the most common arachnoid cyst in clinical practice is the occipital cyst, and the patient may not have any clinical symptoms. Once discovered, the patient will be advised to undergo a head CT or MRI examination once a year. If the patient's cyst has not changed for three consecutive years, it is recommended to repeat the examination every two to three years.

In clinical work, we have basically found no obvious changes in patients' brain cysts, and some have even grown significantly larger than those treated with surgery. Therefore, patients who are diagnosed with congenital brain cysts should not be nervous as it will not affect their life expectancy.
