What are the symptoms of asthma?

Asthma is a disease with a very high incidence in recent years. Patients often show symptoms such as wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness or coughing, and some also experience chest pain. This disease is extremely harmful and may even cause complications, so it must be treated promptly.

1. Symptoms

Common symptoms of asthma patients include paroxysmal wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness or coughing. A small number of patients may also have chest pain as the main symptom. These symptoms often occur after patients are exposed to irritating gases or allergens such as smoke, perfume, paint, dust, pets, pollen, etc., and symptoms are also prone to occur or worsen at night and/or early morning. Many patients can hear wheezing during an asthma attack. Symptoms are usually episodic and most patients can be relieved on their own or with treatment.

Many asthma patients often experience a long period of misdiagnosis before being diagnosed, and are diagnosed with chronic bronchitis, pharyngitis, etc. The wrong diagnosis leads to incorrect treatment plans, which not only delays treatment and causes physical pain to patients, but also brings mental and psychological pain to patients, and the economic investment is wasted. They also frequently use antibiotics, but since antibiotics have no therapeutic effect on asthma, repeated use can easily lead to drug resistance. Of course, antibiotics will be effective when there is a bacterial infection.

2. Disease Hazards

If an asthma patient experiences a severe acute attack, it may be fatal if not treated in time. Poorly controlled asthma will affect patients' daily work and daily life, which may lead to missed work and school, limited activities and exercise, reduced quality of life, and bring economic burdens and negative impacts on the lives of their families.

Repeated asthma attacks can lead to complications such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, emphysema, cor pulmonale, heart failure, and respiratory failure.
