What is the TCM diagnosis of dizziness?

Dizziness is a common physical symptom in life. Sometimes the feeling of dizziness can have a great impact on people's work and study. When the dizziness is severe, you may not be able to walk on your own. However, the definitions of dizziness are different in traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine. Take traditional Chinese medicine, which has received more attention in recent years, for example. What is the traditional Chinese medicine differentiation of dizziness?

Vertigo is a general term for dizziness and lightheadedness. Dizziness means blurred vision or black spots in front of the eyes. Dizziness means feeling that you or the outside world is spinning and that you are unsteady on your feet. The two symptoms often occur at the same time, so they are collectively called "vertigo". Dizziness is mostly a liver disease, which can be caused by various reasons such as wind, fire, phlegm, and deficiency. Based on many years of clinical experience, the author has summarized eight very effective methods for treating vertigo, which are described as follows:

1. Nourishing Blood and Calming Wind Method

The liver stores blood. If blood is deficient and cannot nourish the liver, liver yang will become hyperactive and internal wind will stir. Ye Tianshi said: "The liver is the organ of wind and wood, and it depends entirely on the kidney water for nourishment and the liver blood for moistening." Now the blood cannot nourish the liver, the yang turns into wind, and dizziness occurs. The treatment is to nourish blood and extinguish wind, and the prescription is Danggui Dihuang Yin with modifications.

Liu XX, female, 38 years old. He has suffered from hypertension for 8 years and vertigo for 2 years, with occasional headaches, tremors in hands and feet, weakness, bitter taste in the mouth and insomnia, irritability, poor appetite and dry throat, red tongue with little coating, and a thin and stringy pulse. Blood pressure 26/16kPa. The syndrome is diagnosed as blood deficiency and hyperactivity of liver yang, and the treatment is to nourish blood and extinguish wind. Medicinal angelica 12g, cooked rehmannia 15g, raw rehmannia 15g, white peony root 20g, Polygonum multiflorum 18g, Ligustrum lucidum 20g, yam 15g, dragon bone 25g (pre-boiled), Cassia cassia 25g (pre-boiled), Polygonum multiflorum 15g, and licorice 6g. After taking 9 doses of the decoction, the dizziness stopped, the irritability was gone, the appetite was good, the tremors in the hands and feet were greatly reduced, and the blood pressure dropped to 17/11kPa. Afterwards, I was given the patent medicine Qiju Dihuang Wan for conditioning and consolidation.

2. Water nourishes trees

Insufficient kidney water causes the Jueyin meridian to transform into wind, which disturbs the clear orifices and causes dizziness. Ye Tianshi said: "Water deficiency cannot contain wood, the Jueyin meridian turns into wind and stirs up the yang due to fatigue and restlessness, and the disease begins." The treatment should be to nourish water and contain wood, so that the wind and yang can be hidden and have no intention of rising. Gouju Dihuang Decoction with modifications is often used.

Zhang XX, female, 64 years old. I have been suffering from vertigo for 8 years, recently caused by family discord. The patient was diagnosed with flushed face, dizziness, heavy head and light feet, sore waist and knees, restlessness and insomnia, hot hands and feet, red tongue with little coating, and thin and rapid pulse. The symptoms are kidney yin deficiency, water cannot contain wood, and wood and fire are moving inside. The treatment should be to nourish water and contain wood, soften the liver and extinguish wind. Medicinal Rehmannia glutinosa 30g, yam 15g, Poria 15g, Cornus officinalis 12g, chrysanthemum 12g, Scrophularia 15g, Anemarrhena asphodeloides 10g, White Peony 15g, Achyranthes bidentata 15g, Uncaria rhynchophylla 15g, and Licorice 6g. Take 8 doses of decoction, vertigo will be gone and you can eat normally again. However, his palms were hot and he felt irritable from time to time. He recovered after taking the prescribed medicine for 3 weeks.
