What is cervical kyphosis

What is cervical kyphosis

The human cervical spine is very fragile. Maintaining a certain posture for a long time will lead to cervical kyphosis. But what is cervical kyphosis? Cervical kyphosis is one of the types of cervical spondylosis. Our cervical vertebrae can twist and rotate, which is a normal physiological phenomenon. However, if this normal physiological curvature bends in the opposite direction, it is called reverse arch. It is understood that the cause of this is that the pillow used is not appropriate for you.

Humans are advanced vertebrates. The "C"-shaped forward physiological curve of the cervical spine ensures high flexibility of cervical spine movement, but people often have postures and activities that violate the physiological curve of the cervical spine.

Cause

The most common one is the "high pillow", which causes the head to flex forward, increases the stress on the lower cervical spine, and may accelerate cervical degeneration.

Bad habits such as lying quietly with a high pillow to read, lying with a high backrest to watch TV, and spending long hours on the Internet or playing Mahjong, will weaken the "weak" connection of the cervical spine for a long time, causing its lordotic curve to gradually decrease and become straight or even arched.

The bone and joint tissues related to the cervical vertebrae undergo premature hyperplasia, bone spurs, ligament hypertrophy, and intervertebral disc herniation due to compression, which compress the cervical spinal cord, nerve roots, vertebral arteries, etc., causing a series of physiological and pathological changes, and resulting in clinical symptoms related to cervical spondylosis, such as neck, shoulder, and arm pain, dizziness, insomnia, forgetfulness, etc.

Cervical kyphosis related diseases

Cervical kyphosis can cause many diseases. First, the cervical artery is compressed, which will cause insufficient blood supply to the brain. Second, the nerves are compressed, resulting in radicular lesions or sympathetic and nervous system diseases. Common symptoms include limb numbness, nausea and vomiting, dizziness and headache, and severe cases can even cause paralysis.
