Phlegm-dampness constitution is one of the nine major constitutions in traditional Chinese medicine. It is generally manifested by obesity, preference for fatty and sweet foods, fatigue, laziness, drowsiness, a heavy body, a sticky mouth or loose stools, a wet and slippery pulse, a fat tongue, and a greasy tongue coating. The phlegm-damp constitution is mostly caused by improper diet. In daily life, it can be adjusted through diet, exercise and other methods.

1. Exercise

1: People with phlegm-damp constitution are often obese, feel heavy and easily fatigued, so they should persist in physical exercise for a long time. Walking, jogging, ball games, swimming, martial arts, Bajin, Wuqinxi, and various dances are all options. The amount of activity should be gradually increased so that the loose skin and flesh can gradually transform into firm and dense muscles. In terms of Qigong, it is advisable to focus on dynamic standing exercises, health-care exercises, and longevity exercises, and strengthen qigong.

2. Environmental Adjustment

1: It is not suitable to live in a humid environment; in rainy seasons, be careful of the invasion of dampness. You should live in a dry environment and do more exercise. Clothes should be breathable and sunbathing should be done regularly. If you are in a cold and damp climate, you should reduce outdoor activities to reduce the chance of catching a cold and getting wet in the rain. You should not be too comfortable and should not often lie in bed and sleep in.

Three: Medication and health care

1: The generation of phlegm and dampness is most closely related to the lung, spleen and kidney, so the focus is on regulating and nourishing the lung, spleen and kidney. How should people with phlegm-dampness constitution regulate their bodies? If it is due to the failure of the lungs to descend and the failure of the distribution of body fluids, resulting in the accumulation of phlegm, the patient should clear the lungs and resolve the phlegm, and the prescription for this should be Erchen Decoction; if it is due to the failure of the spleen to function properly and the accumulation of dampness into phlegm, the patient should strengthen the spleen and resolve the phlegm, and the prescription for this should be Liujuzi Decoction or Xiangsha Liujunzi Decoction; if the kidneys are deficient and cannot control water, and the water turns into phlegm, the patient should warm the yang and resolve the phlegm, and the prescription for this should be Jinkui Shenqi Pills.

4. Diet adjustment

1: Eat less fatty and greasy foods, do not drink too much alcohol, and do not overeat. How should people with phlegm-dampness constitution regulate their bodies? Eat more vegetables and fruits, especially some foods that have the effects of strengthening the spleen and eliminating dampness, and resolving phlegm and removing phlegm. They should be eaten more, such as white radish, water chestnut, seaweed, jellyfish, onion, loquat, ginkgo, jujube, lentil, coix seed, red bean, broad bean, cabbage, etc.

2: Ingredients for red bean and carp soup: 1 live carp (about 800g), 50g red beans, 10g tangerine peel, 6g chili, 6g grass fruit, a little cooking wine, ginger, scallion, pepper and salt. Preparation method: Remove the scales, gills and internal organs of a live carp (about 800g); fill the fish belly with 50g red beans, 10g tangerine peel, 6g chili and 6g cardamom, put it in a bowl, add appropriate amount of cooking wine, ginger, scallion, pepper, a little salt, and steam it until cooked. Efficacy: This product strengthens the spleen, removes dampness and resolves phlegm. It is used for people with phlegm-damp constitution and symptoms such as fatigue, loss of appetite, abdominal distension, diarrhea, chest tightness and dizziness.

3: Ingredients for Pearl Barley Balls: 200 grams of lean pork, 150 grams of barley, 30 grams of ginger, and appropriate amounts of salt, MSG, egg white, starch, sugar, and vegetable oil. Preparation method: Wash the pork, chop it into minced meat, make meatballs with a diameter of 2 cm and set aside; cut the ginger into fine pieces and set aside. Wash the coix seeds, wrap the reserved meatballs with raw coix seeds and minced ginger, steam them in a steamer for 10 to 15 minutes, then take out the meatballs, add seasonings and thicken them before serving. Efficacy: Strengthens the spleen, eliminates dampness and harmonizes the stomach, reduces fat and makes the body slim.

4: Ingredients for Astragalus, Chinese Yam and Coix Seed Porridge: 20 grams each of Astragalus, Chinese Yam, Ophiopogon japonicus, Coix Seed and Bamboo Shavings, appropriate amount of sugar, and 50 grams of polished rice. Preparation method: First cut the yam into small pieces, soak it together with astragalus, ophiopogon and atractylodes, then add all the ingredients, add water and boil it, then simmer it into porridge over low heat. Efficacy: replenishes qi and yin, strengthens the spleen and resolves phlegm, clears the heart and calms the mind.

5. People with phlegm-damp constitution can

Food to regulate. Eat more vegetables and fruits, especially those foods that can strengthen the spleen and eliminate dampness, and resolve phlegm and expectorant. In addition, people with phlegm-dampness constitution should do more physical exercise.
