Diet for Diabetics

Diet for Diabetics

There are many common types of diseases, so patients with different diseases have different dietary precautions, which is very helpful for disease treatment and personal health. It is also necessary to have a comprehensive understanding of the diet of diabetic patients, so that other problems will not arise during the patient's diet. At the same time, it is also helpful for the improvement of diabetic patients' diseases.

We all know that diabetes is a disease that is very harmful to human health. Such a disease needs to be treated in time after it is discovered, otherwise it will cause great damage to all aspects of the patient's body. Therefore, when treating this type of disease, what should diabetic patients eat?

Diet for Diabetic Patients:

1. Eating

You can eat three or more meals a day. "Eating less and more often" is definitely better than "overeating", but the total amount should be controlled!

The daily staple food is 5-6 taels, and those who exercise a lot can have 7-8 taels (staple foods include rice, steamed bread, noodles and other starches); 1 bag of milk or soy milk (people with high uric acid and gout should avoid it).

Of the energy needed by the human body in a day, 50 to 60% must be provided by carbohydrates, which means that Asians mainly rely on rice and flour to sustain life. Some diabetics think that since eating can increase blood sugar, then they will not eat! I heard that pumpkin is good for diabetes, so let's eat pumpkin. Eating pumpkin soup in the morning, braised pumpkin at noon, and steamed pumpkin in the evening, I ended up eating so much that I looked pale and thin, and almost turned into a pumpkin man. That is definitely not a good idea. Therefore, try to diversify your diet throughout the day. You can eat anything except foods with extremely high sugar content, but not too much of anything. Try to enjoy life without developing high blood sugar, high blood lipids, high uric acid, or high blood pressure.

2. Drink porridge

Many people like to drink porridge, especially people from Chaozhou and the north. Chaozhou people have made porridge into a world-famous delicacy, such as seafood porridge, preserved egg and lean meat porridge, fish fillet porridge, pork liver porridge, eel porridge, etc. They can even drink porridge for three meals a day. But for diabetics, liking to drink porridge is not a good thing! There is a saying that may have some truth to it: "Drinking porridge is equivalent to drinking sugar water." Because porridge is digested and absorbed quickly, blood sugar rises quickly after drinking it. However, before the second meal, the stomach is empty, which makes hypoglycemia more likely to occur. This artificially causes fluctuations in blood sugar, which is even like a "roller coaster ride." Fluctuations in blood sugar are more harmful than high blood sugar. Therefore, try not to drink porridge, especially "porridge" that has been cooked for a long time.

3. Eating vegetables

You can eat about 2 taels of lean meat every day. Those with low uric acid and cholesterol can eat some seafood, but avoid eating raw food (such as sashimi, raw shrimp and crabs, which can easily damage the spleen yang); 1 to 2 eggs (people with high blood lipids and cholesterol should not eat egg yolks); you can eat more freshwater fish. Eat 1 to 3 kilograms of vegetables every day. If you feel hungry, you can eat vegetables to fill your stomach. There are several vegetables that are very beneficial for people with diabetes:

1. Cucumber: The sugar content is only 1.6%, which can provide vitamin C, carotene, fiber and minerals for diabetics. The succinic acid in cucumbers inhibits the conversion of carbohydrates into fat, making it a preferred therapeutic vegetable for diabetic patients with obesity or hyperlipidemia. However, it is cold in nature, so people with weak spleen and stomach should not eat too much, otherwise they may suffer from abdominal distension, diarrhea and even abdominal pain.

2. Bitter melon: It is cold in nature and bitter in taste, and its vitamin C content ranks first among melons. The bitter melon saponin it contains has a significant effect in lowering blood sugar and is called "plant insulin." People with stomach yang deficiency, spleen deficiency, phlegm and dampness, or spleen and kidney deficiency should not eat too much.

3. Lettuce: It has very low sugar and fat content, but contains insulin activators. It is another ideal therapeutic vegetable for diabetic patients.

4. Bamboo shoots: They are high in fiber, which can delay the digestion of food and the absorption of glucose in the intestines, and help control blood sugar after meals. It is especially suitable for those with dry and hard stools. It is not advisable to eat too much on an empty stomach, otherwise it will cause bloating and abdominal pain.

5. Onion: The prostaglandin A and sulfur-containing amino acids contained in onion can dilate blood vessels, lower blood pressure and regulate blood lipids, which are beneficial for the prevention of diabetic complications. Those who like to drink can soak a proper amount of it in red wine and then drink it. It can lower blood sugar, blood lipids and soften blood vessels.

6. Tremella: It is rich in nutrients, low in calories, and rich in plant fiber and Tremella polysaccharides. Eating it can help delay the rise in blood sugar. It is especially suitable to eat when the weather is hot, but don't eat too much in winter.

7. Try not to eat fried foods. Fried foods such as McDonald's, KFC, and spicy crabs are harmful and have no benefits.

4. Snacks

Try to avoid snacking. Except for biscuits and candies when showing signs of hypoglycemia, you should try to eat less or even no nuts such as melon seeds and peanuts. These nuts contain a lot of fat, and for diabetic patients who already have the risk of cardiovascular damage, eating more of these foods will undoubtedly add fuel to the fire, so they should be eaten in moderation.

5. Fruit

You can eat it, and you should eat it. But you should pay attention to the timing and amount of eating. If your blood sugar is stable, generally less than 10 mmol/L 2 hours after a meal, preferably less than 8 mmol/L, you can eat fruit. It is best to eat fruit between meals, especially about 1 hour before a meal. This way you can enjoy the delicious taste of the fruit and avoid hypoglycemia before meals, and also prevent high blood sugar after meals, thereby keeping your blood sugar more stable.

Edible fruits include: dragon fruit, cucumber, watermelon, orange, grapefruit, lemon, peach, plum, apricot, pineapple, strawberry, cherry, etc.

Through the above introduction, we have a good understanding of the diet for diabetic patients. Patients can choose them in their diet, which will have a good improvement on all aspects of the body. However, patients with such diseases should also pay attention to the diet and not eat too much, which is not conducive to the development of all aspects of the body.
