Does gastric bleeding require surgery?

Gastric bleeding is a common clinical disease, commonly known as gastrointestinal bleeding. Gastric bleeding has a great impact on human health and can be life-threatening in severe cases. There are no limitations to the treatment of gastric bleeding. If not necessary, non-surgical treatment is used. Unless the bleeding is severe, surgical treatment is generally not performed.

1. If you have gastric bleeding, you should go to the hospital immediately. If you don’t go to the hospital, the condition will worsen. If it causes severe bleeding, surgery may be required to remove the stomach. The sooner you go to the hospital, the better. If you wait until the condition becomes very serious, your life will be in danger. And the cost of surgery is also considerable.

2. Most patients with acute gastric bleeding can be treated with non-surgical methods. Specific measures include blood transfusion, infusion, and the use of various hemostatic drugs through different routes. Surgery can be considered for bleeding caused by gastric cancer and gastric bleeding that cannot be controlled by treatment measures.

3. There are many causes of gastric bleeding, but not all gastric bleeding requires surgery. The most common causes are gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastric cancer, or rupture of gastric varices due to liver cirrhosis, but some acute gastric mucosal lesions may also cause bleeding symptoms. Therefore, surgical or conservative treatment should be selected according to the specific condition, rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.

4. Gastric bleeding is commonly known as upper gastrointestinal bleeding. More than 40% of gastric bleeding is caused by gastric and duodenal ulcers. People with a history of gastrointestinal diseases such as overwork, irregular daily diet, and abnormal emotional tension are prone to the disease; the second is gastric bleeding caused by acute hemorrhagic gastritis. Most of the gastric bleeding caused by these two reasons can be effectively cured after regular treatment. Another cause of gastric bleeding is cirrhosis. Patients with cirrhosis generally develop esophageal varices. If they eat rough food or are overly emotionally stimulated, the veins at the fundus of the esophagus will burst and massive bleeding will occur. The mortality rate of gastric bleeding is as high as 10%, so don't underestimate gastric bleeding.
