How to deal with a sprain

How to deal with a sprain

Sprains are mainly caused by excessive force on the joints, which then results in some ligaments on the surface of the joints and some sprains. At the same time, they are mainly common in the ankles, wrists and lower back. They are mainly caused by traumatic stimulation. The treatment of sprains is also very critical. It mainly manifests as some local swelling, pain and limited movement. Therefore, sprains must be treated in time, otherwise it will bring some other types of complications.

No matter which part of the body is sprained, you must rest for a certain period of time. At the same time, you should rest immediately on a relatively flat surface after the injury to recover quickly and reduce pain. However, for some severe sprains, you need to apply some cold compresses. If the sprain in daily life is particularly serious, you can go to the hospital for some examinations and use some medicines for injuries.

No matter which part of the body is sprained, you must rest first. If you sprain your waist, you should lie down on a flat surface immediately. If you sprain your foot, avoid landing hard on the sprained foot. Resting immediately after the injury can promote faster recovery, reduce pain, bleeding or swelling, and prevent the injury from worsening.

Then apply cold compress, try to do so within a few minutes of the sprain. Apply cold compresses with ice packs or cool, wet towels. Cold compresses can constrict blood vessels and reduce internal bleeding, swelling, pain, and cramping. Sometimes there is no ice pack around, so the simplest way is to wet a towel with cold water and apply it to the sprained foot, or simply put your foot in half a basin of cold water. The cold compress time is generally half an hour, and the second cold compress should be applied after a break of one hour.

Then go to the hospital for an X-ray examination. Sprains in any part of the body generally do not result in fractures. Common injuries are soft tissue injuries and ligament strains. The purpose of taking the X-ray is to rule out fractures or joint dislocations. If there are no fractures or joint dislocations, the next step of treatment can be performed.

After confirming that there is no fracture or joint dislocation, you can apply hot compress 24 hours after the sprain. The method of hot compress is similar to that of cold compress, but the temperature is just the opposite. Use a hot pack or hot towel directly on the sprained area. You can also use hot vinegar, hot wine, etc. for hot compresses to promote blood circulation, reduce swelling and relieve pain. The hot compress time should not be too long, twice a day, twenty minutes each time is enough.

The above is about what to do with a sprain. I believe everyone has a certain understanding. No matter which part of the body is sprained, you must take a certain amount of rest. At the same time, rest immediately after the injury in some relatively flat place. This can mainly promote faster recovery and reduce pain, bleeding or swelling.

For some severe sprains, cold compresses may be required.
