What to do if the skin around the stoma is red and swollen
No matter what kind of problems the human body has, they need to be dealt with in a timely manner, otherwise the condition will only get worse. Redness and swelling of the skin around the stoma are usually a problem left over from rectal surgery. If such problems occur on the skin around the stoma, it must be treated promptly and cleaned actively. So, how do you clean the skin around your stoma? More details will be given below!

1. The cleaning water temperature should not be high

Pay attention to the water temperature when cleaning the skin around the stoma. Avoid water that is too hot. Use warm or slightly cold water. You can also use baby alcohol-free wet wipes to wipe it.

2. Avoid cleaning too frequently

Frequent washing and wiping that irritates the skin is another "culprit" for the recurrence of eczema. When the skin is already red and swollen, you can use wet gauze, paper towels, or cotton balls to absorb the dirt instead of wiping back and forth to relieve the irritation.

3. The bottom plate of the ostomy bag should not be too large

The ostomy bag is a sticky yellow gel that directly adheres to the skin and has a protective effect on the skin! Even when the skin is already red, swollen and infected! Therefore, the art of cutting the stoma is very important. Try to "measure and cut according to the stoma". The cut does not have to be round. If your stoma is a bit oval, then cut the opening of the stoma bag into an oval as well! At present, I have not seen a case where the incision is too small to compress the stoma, so as long as the stoma can be put on, it is better to keep more yellow glue when cutting the stoma bag. It can not only stick firmly but also protect the skin, especially when there is already a skin infection!

4. The chassis of the ostomy bag should be "stable"

First of all, the things in the ostomy bag should not be too many or too heavy. When there is a lot of gas and dirt, it should be dumped out in time to prevent the dirt from overflowing due to excessive weight. Secondly, the base must fit the skin, the closer the better!

5. Choice of Drugs

To prevent skin redness, swelling and inflammation, you can use baby red butt prevention ointment; when there is skin rash, you can use eczema ointment; if the skin is red, swollen and painful, you can use chloramphenicol eye ointment or Bactroban ointment or zinc oxide ointment. Because some ointments will affect the fit between the ostomy bag and the skin, you can apply the ointment 1-2 times a day, absorb/gently wipe it dry and then stick the ostomy bag.
