Rash after fever

Rash after fever

Young children's body resistance is not as good as that of adults, so they are particularly prone to fever and colds when the seasons change. Once a child has a fever or a cold, he or she must seek medical attention immediately because the child's body is very delicate. If the child is in a high fever state for a long time, it will easily damage the baby's brain and easily cause dementia.

A common occurrence when young children have a fever is that some rashes will appear on the body after the fever. At this time, young parents will become very anxious and don’t know what to do.

Roseola infantum, also known as infantile roseola, is a common viral rash disease in infancy and young children. It is transmitted by respiratory droplets and is more common in babies aged 6 to 18 months. It is rare in babies over 2 years old and the disease will not recur after being contracted. The first high fever in babies under one year old is most likely roseola infantum. Therefore, when the baby has a fever for the first time, the mother should stay calm and not carry the child to the hospital again and again to avoid cross infection.

The symptoms of roseola infantum are that the baby's fever quickly rises to 39℃ to 40℃, and the baby looks poor and listless. But there are no symptoms such as coughing, runny nose, and the stool is not loose. Generally, high fever will last for 3 days and will subside naturally on the 4th day. After the fever subsides, the baby's chest and head and neck will develop rose-colored maculopapular rashes surrounded by red halos, similar to rubella, measles or scarlet fever. This is medically called "fever rash" and is a unique manifestation of roseola infantum. Mothers do not need to panic if their babies have roseola infantum, as roseola infantum is a benign rash and generally does not require medication. If the baby's fever is below 38.5℃, there is no need to take antipyretics. You only need to cool the baby down physically. At the same time, make sure to drink plenty of water, rest more, and reduce outdoor activities.

It is very common for young children to develop rashes after having a fever, so young parents should not be too anxious. As long as they take their babies to a regular hospital for medical treatment, they will generally be able to recover in the shortest time. The most taboo thing for babies' illnesses is delay. Delay will only miss the best treatment time and aggravate the condition.
