It is necessary to seek treatment as early as possible and avoid it developing to the late stage of bone cancer. Let's see how long you can live with bone cancer.

How long can you live with advanced bone cancer?

Bone cancer is a tumor that occurs in bones or their attached tissues. The exact cause is unknown. In the advanced stage of bone cancer, like other cancers, it will metastasize through the lymph and blood, and has a high mortality rate. How long a person can survive in the advanced stage of bone cancer has become the most concerned issue for patients and their families. We asked Director Guo Shuzhen of the Tumor Biotherapy Center of Dalian 210 Hospital to give us a detailed answer.

Experts explain bone cancer

There are many types of bone cancer, and different tumors have different common sites. For example, osteoma and bone hemangioma often occur in the skull and jaw; osteoid osteoma and osteoblastoma are more common in the tibia; chondroma is more common in the hand bones; generally, primary malignant bone tumors tend to occur in the long bones of the limbs, such as osteosarcoma and Ewing's sarcoma, which tend to occur above and below the knee joint, that is, the lower end of the femur or the upper end of the tibia; chordoma often occurs in the sacrum; myeloma often occurs in the skull and spine; secondary bone tumors are more common in the pelvis, spine and femur. Among the distant metastases of many malignant tumors in internal organs, bone metastasis ranks first. Among female bone metastases, 70% are from breast cancer, and the remaining 30% are from kidney cancer, thyroid cancer and other tumors; among male bone metastases, prostate cancer and lung cancer account for 80%. The overall prognosis of bone malignancies is poor. The natural survival period after diagnosis without treatment is several months to 1 year.

How long does bone cancer last? Treatment is the key

Surgery is the main treatment method, but it is risky and prone to metastasis and recurrence. Chemotherapy is divided into systemic chemotherapy and local chemotherapy. Commonly used drugs include doxorubicin and high-dose methotrexate, but the drugs are not very selective and tumor cells are not synchronized in the division cycle, which affects the effect of chemotherapy. Radiotherapy can only be used as an auxiliary treatment for bone cancer, and the effect is not ideal. It can be seen that traditional treatment methods do not have ideal effects on bone cancer. However, in recent years, more and more biological immunotherapy has been used clinically, and breakthrough progress has been made.

How long can one live with bone cancer? Especially in the late stages of bone cancer, many patients have no choice but to receive treatment and maintain a good attitude. This is very important for all patients diagnosed with cancer. Many cancer patients are defeated by their own minds and scared to death. When facing cancer, you must have a positive attitude.
