The elderly may believe that bruxism is a sign of calcium deficiency and that skin itching is caused by wind evil. If skin itching affects daily life, treatment is necessary. Skin itching can affect children's daily lives and cause great distress to many parents. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that skin itching is related to "wind", which is divided into internal wind and external wind. Acute skin itching is mostly caused by exogenous wind evil, often accompanied by cold, heat and moisture. Internal wind is mainly caused by wind due to blood deficiency. For children with itchy skin, the main principle when choosing diet therapy and medicated food is to dispel wind. For external wind, we mainly dispel evil, and for internal wind, we also nourish the blood.

1. Symptom Identification

1. Distinguish between external wind and internal wind

External wind: acute onset, itching all over the body, aggravated by wind.

Internal wind: Skin itching is recurrent and difficult to heal, the itching is mild, often accompanied by local dryness and peeling of the skin, or accompanied by pale complexion and pale lips.

2. Distinguish between hot, cold and wet

Wind-heat: Obvious skin itching, local burning sensation on the skin, aggravated by heat, and red tongue.

Wind-dampness: Itching occurs in waves, worsens at night, the local skin is moist, even exuding, and the tongue coating is thick.

Wind-cold: The itching is not severe, but it is aggravated by wind and cold. The rash is white, the patient is afraid of cold and likes warmth, and the tongue is pale.

2. Commonly used medicinal and dietary prescriptions

1. Loofah porridge

Ingredients: 1 loofah, 6g mint, 50g polished rice, and appropriate amount of white sugar.

Preparation method: Add rice and water to cook porridge as usual. When it is half cooked, wash and cut the loofah into sections. When the porridge is cooked, add mint and then add sugar and mix well before eating.

Usage: 1 to 2 times a day for 3 consecutive days.

Indications: Itchy skin, local skin redness, slight burning sensation, red tongue.

2. Onion and ginger porridge

Ingredients: 5g ginger, 3 green onions, 50g glutinous rice.

Preparation method: First add water to boil the japonica rice, when the rice is almost cooked, add the scallion and ginger, cook until the porridge is done, then add a little salt and MSG for seasoning.

Usage: Can be used as staple food, once a day for 3 consecutive days.

Indications: mild itching, aggravated by wind or cold, afraid of cold and prefers warmth, pale tongue.

3. Chinese yam and pork bone soup

Ingredients: 50g wild yam, 200g pork spine.

Preparation method: Wash the pork spine and put it into a pot, add water to simmer the soup, fry it until it is about 3 bowls, take out the pork spine and skim off the floating oil on the top. Wash the wild yam, slice it, wrap it with gauze, put it into the pork bone soup and cook it until it becomes about 2 bowls.

Usage: Drink the soup once a day for 3 to 5 days.

Indications: Itchy paroxysms, moist, oozing skin.

4. Rehmannia and black chicken soup

Ingredients: 10g Rehmannia root, 2 jujubes, 1g cicada shell, 50g black chicken.

Preparation method: Wash all the ingredients and medicinal materials, put them together in a stewing pot, add 200ml of cold boiled water, and stew for 3 hours.

Usage: Drink the soup and eat the meat, 2 to 3 times a week.

Indications: prolonged skin itching, local dryness and peeling, and pale lips.
