Why is my calf uncomfortable?

If you feel extreme discomfort in your calves, you should pay attention to it. If your calves feel uncomfortable while you are sleeping, which causes insomnia, and you have symptoms such as numbness, swelling, and pain in your calves, and you don't know where to put your legs, it may be caused by restless legs syndrome, which is an uncommon disease, but it is quite harmful to the patient's health.

Clinical manifestations

The main manifestation is paroxysmal unbearable, non-painful discomfort deep in the calf between the knee and ankle joints; it may feel like crawling insects, tingling, itching or burning. Most of the discomfort is difficult to describe and is often bilaterally symmetrical. A few cases involve the thighs, feet or upper limbs.

It is triggered by resting quietly or lying in bed. During an attack, the symptoms can be temporarily relieved by changing body position or activity, patting, acupuncture, or kneading. In mild cases, the symptoms last from a few seconds to a few minutes, while in severe cases, the symptoms can only be relieved by staying awake all night and walking constantly. Forced quiet rest makes the symptoms worse, often accompanied by difficulty falling asleep and easy awakening. After waking up, it is difficult for the lower limbs to remain in the same position. Patients are irritable and restless, and often complain of a feeling of heaviness and weakness in the lower limbs after walking.

The disease progresses slowly, with symptoms that fluctuate and may last for decades. Neurological examinations often show no positive signs, while secondary cases show positive changes consistent with the underlying disease.

complication

Because patients cannot be cured for a long time, they are often accompanied by low mood, depression, mental tension, fear, anxiety, and boredom, which cause sleep disorders such as difficulty falling asleep, insomnia, lack of sleep, and even suicidal thoughts. But after injuries, these no longer exist.

Treatment method: The patient can lie down or sit during treatment, depending on the suitability of the patient and the convenience of treatment. Depending on the severity of the lesions, various massage methods can be used in order to remove remote pathological substances and eliminate the lesions. Generally, the discomfort and anxiety symptoms can be relieved on the same day of treatment.

However, patients must be made clear that even if there are no more symptoms, treatment should still be continued until no distant lesions appear. If individual parts of the body that have no symptoms at the time are not treated, they can be treated at any time if various symptoms occur in the future, such as cramps, pain or weakness.

Restless legs do not require any medication or other unnecessary treatments. There are no contraindications after treatment.
