This situation is also a form of insomnia, and there are many causes for it, including both psychological factors and some disease causes, such as excessive stress in daily life, excessive emotional and psychological tension, etc. Some chronic diseases are also important causes of insomnia.

1. External factors

Psychological factors are the most common causes of insomnia, including many psychological stresses, such as interpersonal conflicts or intrapsychic conflicts; major changes in life (marriage, childbirth); heavy workload or major changes in career; sudden very disappointing and frightening events. There is a type of patient called "Sunday insomnia" who suffers from anticipatory anxiety due to the worry of having to go to work the next day and the high pressure of work. It must be pointed out that whether it is positive or negative; stimulation or sudden loss of stress can cause insomnia.

Many central nervous system diseases can cause difficulty falling asleep in patients with insomnia, anxiety, and phobia. Symptoms of depression include early awakening. Schizophrenia and mania keep people awake all night. Restless legs syndrome and periodic limb movement disorder with increased arousals. Alzheimer's disease manifests itself in disrupted sleep-wake cycles. Cerebrovascular disease often manifests as REM sleep behavior disorder. Somatoform disorder causes insomnia due to the painful experience of illness. Parkinson's disease can cause various sleep problems due to movement disorders. It is not uncommon for various headaches to cause insomnia. Epilepsy affects sleep due to abnormal discharges. Other disorders such as Huntington's disease, torsion dystonia, olivopontocerebellar atrophy, spinocerebellar degeneration, and Rett syndrome can also cause insomnia.

3. Physical illness

It can also cause insomnia. Hypertension and heart disease can cause insomnia due to angina pectoris or nocturnal dyspnea, insufficient blood supply to the brain, and brain hypoxia. Lung diseases, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, alveolar fibrosis, and insufficient lung ventilation due to various reasons can all cause insomnia. Chronic bronchitis can cause insomnia due to coughing and asthma. In hyperthyroidism, thyroid hormone secretion increases, metabolism is vigorous, and the excitability of the central nervous system is over-enhanced, causing insomnia. Digestive system diseases, such as gastric ulcers, especially reflux gastroesophagitis, can affect sleep due to burning pain. Hepatitis, cirrhosis, and liver cancer can cause liver detoxification dysfunction, increased blood ammonia, and affect brain function, causing sleep disorders. Hypoglycemia can cause insomnia due to brain hypoxia. Arthritis, surgical pain, allergic diseases, itchy skin, nasal congestion, nocturia, and accumulation of toxic substances can lead to insomnia due to central dysfunction. Sleep apnea syndrome can cause increased awakenings due to hypoxia
