How to treat pollen allergy

The phenomenon of pollen allergy exists in reality because each of us has a different physique. Just like most people can eat the same food, but there are still a few people who cannot eat them because it will cause certain harm to the body. Generally speaking, when there is a problem with food, what you need to do is to find a way to solve the problem and think about what caused the consequence.

From this point we can see that no matter what kind of object it is, it will cause some abnormalities in the body. Just because the food or object is fine for one person, it does not mean that everyone will be fine. Also, the degree of allergies varies from person to person, so only by knowing the solution can you use it effectively. So how do you treat pollen allergies?

Prevention and treatment

1. Avoiding pollen is an unavoidable allergen. It is best to stay indoors during the disease season and close doors and windows to reduce the entry of outdoor allergenic pollen. This purpose can also be achieved if air conditioning is available. Avoid going outdoors as much as possible. If you are allergic to vegetables or fruits, you should avoid eating those plant foods that you are allergic to.

2. Application of anti-inflammatory agents If the condition has been confirmed, anti-inflammatory agents such as topical corticosteroid elocon ointment should be used before the arrival of the pollen season. Those with symptoms of nasal allergies should use nasal hormones or sodium cromolyn. Those with asthma can use oral inhaled hormones or sodium cromolyn for prevention.

3. Symptomatic medication: For patients who have already developed the disease, some drugs should be used for symptomatic treatment. In addition to continuing to use the above-mentioned drugs, oral antihistamines can be taken to relieve nasal symptoms, and attention should be paid to choosing non-drowsy antihistamines such as Claritin, and decongestants (i.e. vasoconstrictors) such as Claritin can be used to improve nasal congestion. When an asthma attack occurs, antiasthmatic drugs such as the β2 agonists Ventolin, Ventolin, salbutamol and Combivent (β2 agonist and ipratropium bromide) can be inhaled orally. Severe cases require hospitalization.

4. Immunotherapy As mentioned above, it is difficult to completely avoid pollen from wind-pollinated flowers. Therefore, immunotherapy (generally known as desensitization therapy) has become the main means of preventing hay fever. The principle of immunotherapy is to inject pollen extract to which the patient is sensitive into the patient's body in gradually increasing doses from small amounts to large amounts (the most commonly used and most effective method of immunotherapy is subcutaneous injection), so as to produce immunological changes in the patient's body, which is beneficial to improving the patient's immunity to the pollen. Years of observations at home and abroad have confirmed that if the allergens are of high quality, applied properly, the cases are appropriately selected, and the methods are correct, the results will be quite good. How long should immunotherapy be used? There is no definitive answer, but it is generally recommended that effective cases should be continued for 3 to 5 years. For patients with pollen allergies and vegetable or fruit allergies, food-induced symptoms cannot be treated with immunotherapy due to cross-reactivity between pollen and vegetables or fruits. One year after patients underwent immunotherapy with the pollen they were sensitive to, not only did their hay fever symptoms improve, but many of them were able to eat the foods they were previously allergic to.

The above introduces the prevention and treatment of pollen allergies. Only by clearly understanding these can you be able to come up with solutions when you discover such situations. Different people react differently to pollen allergies, so we must prescribe the right medicine to achieve the desired results. Therefore, the most important thing is to master the method of what to do when problems occur.
