Symptoms of osteomyelitis

The symptoms of osteomyelitis are not well known to many people at present. As people pay more and more attention to their own health problems, some symptoms of osteomyelitis have gradually become knowledge that everyone wants to know. Moreover, since the impact of osteomyelitis on human health is extremely harmful, timely understanding of the symptoms of osteomyelitis is very helpful for the treatment of osteomyelitis.

Osteomyelitis is generally characterized by two most obvious symptoms, one is traumatic osteomyelitis and the other is acute osteomyelitis. Since the symptoms of the two are different when they occur, their treatment methods are also differentiated according to their symptoms. This article focuses on the specific manifestations of the symptoms of the two, hoping to help everyone.

1. Symptoms of traumatic osteomyelitis include: obvious history of trauma, such as open fractures, traumatic osteomyelitis caused by untimely and improper treatment after injury, initial symptoms of acute infection, chills, fever, increased white blood cell count, accelerated erythrocyte sedimentation rate, throbbing pain in the injured area, local redness, swelling, fever, purulent or bloody secretions in the wound, sinus tract formation in the chronic stage, and squamous cell carcinoma sometimes occurs due to long-term inflammatory stimulation.

2. Symptoms of acute osteomyelitis include: sudden onset, chills, high fever, rapid pulse and other systemic poisoning symptoms. Acute hematogenous osteomyelitis is more common in children. There is persistent severe pain in the lesion site and refusal to move. After a few days, there is local swelling and obvious tenderness. This is often the origin of the inflammation. Within 2-3 days of onset, there is only inflammatory congestion in the bone marrow cavity, and no subperiosteal abscess is formed. Local swelling or tenderness is limited to the lesion area. 3-4 days after onset, subperiosteal abscess is formed, the affected limb segment is swollen, and tenderness is obvious. When effusion exists, there will be swelling, red skin, and fever may fluctuate, forming chronic osteomyelitis.

After reading the overview of the two symptoms of osteomyelitis in this article, I believe that patients with osteomyelitis have already had some understanding of its symptoms. Here I suggest that you learn more about osteomyelitis in your life and start treatment as early as possible when the symptoms are discovered. This will help to cure osteomyelitis.
