Chickenpox contagious period

Chickenpox contagious period

Varicella is a relatively common infectious skin disease that often occurs in infants and young children. It often occurs in early spring or late winter. It can be transmitted through the air, droplets or direct contact. The infectious period is generally 24 hours before the rash appears, and then until the lesions scab over, which is about 7 to 8 days. Varicella also has a certain incubation period, usually about 14 days.

What are the symptoms of chickenpox ? Chickenpox is a common infectious disease caused by the varicella-zoster virus and is mainly transmitted through the respiratory tract. Two days before and five days after the onset of the disease, there are a large number of viruses in the patient's nasal cavity, oral cavity, and pharynx, which enter the air through droplets for transmission. How long is chickenpox contagious? Chickenpox is highly contagious. The patient is the only source of infection, and about 90% of children who come into contact with him will become ill. Moreover, the disease is contagious from the day before the onset of the disease until the rash dries and forms scabs. The extremely itchy chickenpox is now tormenting many children. Chickenpox is prevalent during the transition from spring to summer and early summer every year, so we must pay special attention to children's health.

During the chickenpox epidemic season, chickenpox mainly occurs in children in kindergartens and primary schools. Children in kindergartens and primary schools are susceptible groups, and chickenpox is highly contagious. Most of these young patients are infected by children around them. Few adults get chickenpox because once a person has had chickenpox, the body will produce antibodies and generally will not get it again. But once adults get chickenpox, the symptoms are generally more severe. In addition, chickenpox is often accompanied by a low-grade fever. In the first one or two days after the onset of the disease, there may be cold symptoms such as sneezing and runny nose. The body temperature will rise, but not obviously, that is, slightly higher than 37 degrees Celsius. At this time, many children and parents may not realize that they have a fever. As the disease progresses, the body temperature will further rise, but generally it is a low fever, and the patient will have a more obvious fever discomfort.

During the incubation period of chickenpox, the varicella virus is highly contagious and can be transmitted through the air or contact with patients or their used clothing, bedding, and utensils. People of any age can get chickenpox, but it mainly affects children. Generally, 70% of people have antibodies against the chickenpox virus. 18% of children aged 1-3 years old have antibodies, 50% of children aged 4-6 years old have antibodies, and 93% of people over 20 years old have antibodies. The incubation period of chickenpox is 12-21 days, mostly 14-15 days. It is characterized by fever, systemic red maculopapular rash, herpes and scabs. Chickenpox often appears in batches, starting as a small red dot, turning into a blister, then collapsing, and finally forming a scab, so the shapes seen are different. Chickenpox grows centripetally and is more common on the head, face, chest, proximal limbs and other parts of the body. In addition, ulcers may also appear in the patient's mouth, nose, vulva and other parts of the body.
