Colitis precautions

The occurrence of colitis brings serious harm to the patient's body. We know that colitis is very difficult to treat, because the treatment of colitis takes a relatively long time, and it is easy to relapse during the treatment of colitis. Therefore, we must pay attention to the nursing work for patients with colitis, and do a good job of caring for patients with colitis in terms of food, clothing, housing and transportation during the recovery period of the disease.

Patients with colitis need to pay attention to many things in life, especially in terms of diet. They must not mess around. They must abide by the dietary rules and dietary taboos of colitis. Let’s take a look at the following introduction to precautions for colitis.

1. High energy and high protein to compensate for the nutritional loss caused by long-term diarrhea. The supply can be gradually increased according to the patient's digestion and absorption tolerance. Generally, heat energy is supplied at 40 kcal per kilogram of body weight per day. The daily protein intake is 1.5 grams per kilogram of body weight, of which 50% should be high-quality protein.

2. Vitamins and inorganic salts must be sufficient to compensate for the nutritional loss caused by diarrhea.

3. Limit fat and dietary fiber: Diarrhea is often accompanied by fat malabsorption, and in severe cases, it is accompanied by steatorrhea. Therefore, the amount of dietary fat should be limited, and low-fat foods and cooking methods should be used. For those with steatorrhea, medium-chain fatty acid oils can be used. Avoid eating foods that are high in irritants and fiber, such as spicy foods, sweet potatoes, radishes, celery, raw vegetables, fruits, as well as irritating onions, ginger, garlic, coarse grains, dry beans, etc.

4. Eat small meals frequently: To reduce the burden on the intestines and supplement nutritional intake by eating small meals frequently, it is recommended that you go to the hospital for examination and diagnosis.

First, eat small meals frequently to avoid being too full or too hungry. If you eat too much, the gastric antrum will expand excessively, gastric acid will increase, and the condition will be aggravated; the same is true in reverse. Therefore, according to the individual's condition and conditions, in addition to the three meals a day, you can add 2 to 3 times of cakes or dried steamed buns with less sugar, especially eating more baked dried steamed buns. Because after the steamed buns are baked, the water content is almost completely evaporated, and the starch in the steamed buns is also turned into easily digestible dextrin. After being fully chewed in the mouth, it enters the stomach to neutralize gastric acid and reduce the irritation and corrosion of gastric acid on the ulcer surface, which can reduce or eliminate the pain.

Second, eat easily digestible food that contains enough calories, protein and vitamins, such as porridge, thin noodles, milk, soft rice, soybean milk, vegetables, etc. Patients whose symptoms have basically disappeared can eat normally, but still avoid eating fried food and celery, leeks, bean sprouts, ham, bacon, dried fish, etc. that contain a lot of crude fiber. At the same time, do not eat raw, cold, hard food, especially overheated food, so as not to dilate blood vessels and cause gastric bleeding.

Third, patients should eat more food without residues. To avoid dry stools, they should also eat foods that can moisten the intestines, such as agar, bananas, and honey.

4. Avoid eating any overly sour or overly sweet foods that may irritate the ulcer surface, such as peppers, raw onions, raw garlic, concentrated fruit juice, coffee, wine, strong tea, etc.

Above, we introduced the harm that colitis brings to the patient's body. We know that colitis is relatively difficult to treat. It takes a certain amount of time to treat colitis and colitis is prone to recurrence, so we must do a good job in daily care of patients with colitis. Above, we introduced in detail the precautions for colitis.
