How to treat chickenpox

How to treat chickenpox

Chickenpox mostly occurs in infancy and is highly contagious, especially in spring and autumn, when the incidence is particularly high. Symptoms often start with fever, followed by the appearance of papules, blisters, and scabs. If treated properly, it generally does not leave scars. Therefore, for the sake of beauty, we also have to understand the knowledge of chickenpox and master the correct treatment methods to ensure the health of the patient.

Generally, when you suffer from chickenpox, you will experience an extremely itchy process during the outbreak, but you must never scratch it, otherwise it will easily leave scars. Therefore, we should treat chickenpox correctly and treat it well. Here I will introduce to you the general methods of treating chickenpox.

Corticosteroids are generally contraindicated in the treatment of chickenpox. For chickenpox patients who have already used hormones for other diseases, the dosage should be reduced to physiological doses as soon as possible or gradually discontinued if conditions permit.

General treatment and care: Chickenpox is a self-limiting disease and usually recovers within 2 weeks. The treatment is mainly symptomatic, and the patient should be isolated until all the herpes are dry and crusted, generally not less than 2 weeks after the onset of the disease. During the fever period, patients should rest in bed, and those with high temperature can be given antipyretics. For those with more severe skin itching, oral antihistamines can be taken. If the herpes has ruptured, apply 1% gentian violet. If there is secondary infection, anti-inflammatory drugs can be applied topically. Adrenal cortical hormones are generally contraindicated, but they can be given to patients with hemorrhagic varicella and varicella pneumonia.

Antiviral treatment: Acyclovir (Acyclovir) is the most commonly used drug for the treatment of chickenpox. The dosage is 5-10 mg/kg each time, once every 8 hours, orally or intravenously. The course of treatment is 7 days or until no new skin lesions appear within 48 hours. Interferon can also be added to inhibit viral replication, 100,000 to 200,000 μ/day, for 3 to 5 consecutive days;. Daily intramuscular injection of vitamin B12 500-1000ug also has a certain therapeutic effect.

Immune preparations: Live attenuated measles vaccine is effective in treating chickenpox. For patients with chickenpox, intramuscular injection once a day for 1 to 2 times can accelerate the formation of dry scabs on herpes and prevent the appearance of new herpes.

Treatment of complications: Appropriate antibiotics can be used when chickenpox is secondary to bacterial infection. Patients with encephalitis should be given symptomatic treatment, including oxygen inhalation, reducing intracranial pressure, protecting brain cells, and relieving shock. Pneumonia should be treated accordingly.

We can see that the treatment of chickenpox still depends on antiviral treatment, because chickenpox itself is a viral disease, and it is worth mentioning that it is not only infants and young children who will get chickenpox, but the age of onset is relatively young. However, people of all ages will get chickenpox, and as long as you have had chickenpox, you will be immune for life.
