Differentiate between angular cheilitis and herpes in winter

The climate is dry in winter, and people eat more meat, so they often neglect to replenish water, and the corners of their mouths are prone to ulcers. Some people believe that chapped lips are caused by a lack of vitamin B, so they want to improve the condition by eating more vegetables and fruits. However, this method is not very effective. So what is oral herpes?

Angular cheilitis and herpes need to be distinguished

Speaking of "sore corners of the mouth", it is generally called angular cheilitis in medicine, and the dry autumn and winter seasons are its peak seasons. In addition, food that is too refined and lacks intake of coarse grains can also cause dry corners of the mouth. Some fruits and vegetables are indeed rich in vitamin B, but taking vitamin B through food can only play a preventive role. For people who already have angular cheilitis, the most effective way to treat the disease is to take vitamin B tablets directly.

In addition to supplementing vitamin B, you should avoid licking your lips excessively. This may seem to make the mouth more moisturized, but the residues of amylase, lysozyme, etc. in the saliva will only make the lips drier. When the weather is cold, it is recommended to carry lip balm with you.

Herpes is contagious, so be careful when kissing

Are ulcers at the corners of the mouth just caused by a lack of vitamins? Observe the corners of the mouth carefully. If small blisters have grown and pus can be vaguely seen, it is very likely that you have been infected with the herpes simplex virus. This is because people are infected due to reduced immunity due to overwork, colds, etc. At this time, replenishing water or vitamin B is not the correct treatment method.

The initial attack of herpes simplex is often related to direct or indirect contact with a virus carrier. After the blisters break, the affected skin will scab and heal, and the course of the disease often lasts 7-10 days. After the initial infection, the human body usually produces antibodies, but the virus may still lurk in the body and break out again when the person's immunity decreases.

Even though herpes can be cured, you should still take antiviral medication to prevent spreading the virus to others. During illness, do not cross-use tableware, toiletries, etc., and avoid kissing others, especially children with low immunity.
