What are the dangers of amnesia?

Is amnesia really that dangerous?

I believe everyone is familiar with amnesia, especially for some elderly people, amnesia is a common disease. But amnesia generally means that memory is weakened and people often forget certain things. So will it be harmful to our body? In fact, amnesia can also cause harm to our body. Let’s now look at the harm caused by amnesia.

1. Migraine

Migraine sufferers are more likely to experience transient global amnesia, which is more common in people over 50 years old.

2. Depression

Depression can lead to memory problems by lowering levels of brain chemicals such as serotonin and norepinephrine.

3. Menopausal syndrome

A study from the University of California found that estrogen levels decrease after menopause, and neurotransmitters in the brain are less protected, which affects memory.

4. Epilepsy

During an epileptic seizure, electrical impulses in the brain become disrupted. If this disorder occurs in the hippocampus area of the brain, it will inevitably cause damage to the patient's memory.

Amnesia is a brain disease. Due to physiological and genetic reasons, the incidence rate in men is significantly higher than in women. It is mainly divided into two categories: organic amnesia and functional amnesia.

Organic amnesia is caused by problems with the memory nerves in the cerebral cortex, including brain tumors, brain trauma, encephalitis, etc., which cause memory impairment or loss; certain serious systemic diseases, such as endocrine dysfunction, malnutrition, chronic poisoning, etc., can also damage the brain and cause amnesia.

Functional amnesia refers to problems with the memory function of the cerebral cortex. Adults often have difficulty concentrating due to the heavy responsibilities of work. When they learn something, the memory is often not as deep in specific parts of the cerebral cortex as in adolescence. This type of forgetfulness is called functional amnesia.

From the above introduction, we can know that the harm caused by amnesia is not small, so we should exercise more often. Regular exercise can keep us away from amnesia. Also, if we have the conditions, we can go to the hospital for regular physical examinations, so that our health is also guaranteed.
