What should I do if my mouth is dislocated?

The jaw may be dislocated if you eat something too hard or too large. Don't panic after the dislocation. You can put your hand into the patient's mouth to help the patient reposition it, or the patient can reposition it by himself with the help of a bench. After the jaw is repositioned, you must pay attention. It is best not to open your mouth too wide in the first few days to avoid habitual dislocation.

1. Don't panic when your jaw is dislocated. The person who is doing the jaw reduction can put down a commonly used square stool at home and ask the person with the dropped jaw to sit against the wall with the head against the wall. This way, the chin can be lower than the elbow joint of the person doing the jaw reduction, making it easier to exert force during the reduction.

2. The person performing the reduction should wrap his/her thumbs with a handkerchief, insert them into the mouth of the person with the dislocation, and place them on the occlusal surfaces of the posterior teeth on both sides. The other four fingers should be placed on the lower edge of the mandible outside the mouth.

3. Before reduction, divert the attention of the person with a dislocated jaw, then press the jaw downward with force, and at the same time lift the chin upward, so that the condyle of the mandible rotates in an arc shape to the bottom of the tuberosity. Just push it back gently to make the condyle slide into the original joint cavity. At this time, the person performing the reduction should quickly slide the thumbs of both hands to the outside of the back teeth to avoid biting.

Precautions

After reduction, it is best to use a bandage to support the chin and avoid opening your mouth wide for a few days to prevent habitual dislocation.
