Treatment for sciatic nerve

Treatment for sciatic nerve

As people enter old age, the bones of most people cannot be compared with before. Many elderly people face diseases in various parts of the body such as low back pain, cervical pain, sciatica pain, etc. These diseases all show symptoms of pain, which makes people feel unbearable pain at night. Speaking of this, isn’t it tempting for the editor to propose a treatment method? Let’s look at the treatment methods for sciatic nerve.

Sciatica is first felt as soreness in the lower back and stiffness in the waist, or a few weeks before the onset of the disease, there is a brief pain in the lower limbs when walking and exercising, which gradually worsens and develops into severe pain. The pain starts in the waist, buttocks or hips, and spreads downward along the back of the thigh, popliteal fossa, outer side of the calf and dorsum of the foot. On the basis of persistent pain, there are waves of intensified burning or needle-like pain, which is more severe at night.

1. Treatment should be directed at the cause. During the acute phase of lumbar disc herniation, resting on a hard bed for 1-2 weeks can often stabilize the symptoms.

2. For symptomatic treatment, for pain, paracetamol plus codeine 30 mg, 3-4 times/d, and other non-steroidal analgesics, such as ibuprofen, naproxen, etc., can be used. For muscle spasms, diazepam 5-10 mg orally, 3 times/d; or cyclobenzaprine 10 mg orally, 3 times/d, may be effective.

3. In severe cases, dexamethasone 10-15 mg/d can be used by intravenous drip for 7-10 days. Generally, 10 mg of prednisone can be taken orally 3-4 times a day, and 10-14 times as a course of treatment. 1%-2% procaine or 1 ml of prednisolone can also be used for paravertebral blockade. Acupuncture and physical therapy can be used in combination. Conservative treatment can usually relieve the symptoms. When the effect is not good, pelvic traction or prednisolone epidural injection can be used. Surgical treatment may be considered for individual ineffective or chronic recurring cases.

[Treatment Method]

1. Bed rest:

Especially in the early stages of intervertebral disc herniation, some patients can rest on a hard bed for 3-4 weeks and their symptoms will improve on their own.

Second, drug treatment:

Analgesics, B vitamins, and a short course of oral corticosteroids can help recovery.

3. Physical therapy:

In the acute stage, ultrashort wave therapy, ultraviolet irradiation of erythema, etc. can be used for treatment, while in the chronic stage, short wave therapy and direct current iodine ion introduction can be used.

The treatment process of sciatic nerve is long. During the treatment, you need to rest more and avoid moving around. There are three treatment methods available to patients, and what is most needed is the patient's cooperation with the treatment. Especially older people need to pay more attention to their physical condition. If the condition is serious, the treatment will not be so simple.
