According to traditional Chinese medicine, there are two reasons for the formation of gallbladder polyps: one is due to liver depression and qi stagnation, abnormal qi and blood circulation, and long-term depression leading to blood stasis; the other is due to gastrointestinal stagnation, abnormal transportation and transformation, water retention in the body, which accumulates and turns into heat, steaming the liver and gallbladder, causing the liver to lose its ability to flow, and long-term depression leading to blood stasis. The liver and gallbladder meridians run through the flanks. When the liver fails to release its qi, qi stagnates and the flanks become swollen and painful. Wood depression overcomes earth, causing spleen and stomach qi stagnation and resulting in abdominal distension or pain. Internal accumulation of dampness and heat and liver and gallbladder qi reversal result in bitter taste in the mouth, dry throat and heartburn. The yellow and greasy tongue coating is caused by the upward steaming of damp heat from the liver and spleen. The treatment principles of this disease should be based on soothing the liver and promoting bile secretion, clearing away heat and purging fire, and strengthening the spleen and removing dampness.
