Generally, if the eczema is not very serious, just wash it with clean water. Make sure the water temperature is moderate. Too hot water can easily cause itching on the body and aggravate the symptoms. You can also use honeysuckle or mugwort to boil water for bathing, which can also help treat eczema.

For severe eczema covering a large area, it can be treated with external washing with Chinese medicine. That is, use appropriate amounts of alum, Sophora flavescens, Artemisia argyi, Stemona bulbus, Dictamni cortex, Poria cocos, Rehmannia glutinosa, Phellodendron chinense, and Polygonatum sibiricum to boil water and wash the affected area externally. Then apply calamine lotion externally for treatment.

You can also use the following Chinese herbal medicines for bathing, including Xanthium sibiricum, Cnidium monnieri, Dictamni, Atractylodes macrocephala, Sophora flavescens, Radix Codonopsis pilosulae, Phellodendron chinense, and Kochia scoparia. After decocting the medicine, remove the residue and wait until the water is at a suitable temperature. You can use it for local washing or bathing. One dose a day. If you want to wash the area externally, it is best to wash it once in the morning, noon, and evening.

The most important thing for children with eczema is for parents to take good care of their children, such as avoiding wearing too many clothes, avoiding irritation of the skin by clothes, letting the patients wear pure cotton and breathable close-fitting clothes, avoiding scratching the affected area, etc.

Precautions for infant eczema

It is generally not recommended to apply ointment to children with eczema. The skin of infants and young children is delicate, and ointment is prone to side effects. It is recommended to use appropriate Chinese medicine decoction for external washing in summer, and the concentration should not be too high. Chinese medicines that can be used include Phellodendron chinense, Poria cocos, Sophora flavescens, Rhubarb, Cynanchum chinense, Sanguisorba officinalis, etc., which can clear away heat and detoxify, and help eliminate eczema. Different people may need different prescriptions, so it is best to consult a Chinese medicine doctor and analyze the specific situation. Eczema is related to one’s physical constitution, hot climate, diet and other factors. Many people think that it will get better naturally if they do not intervene. In fact, long-term delay can cause damage to the skin. So if eczema tends to become more serious, it should still be treated.
