Why does gout recur?

Gout is a disease caused by excessive intake of purine, which leads to increased metabolism and thus poor excretion of uric acid. A disease that causes high levels of uric acid in the blood. This disease is often related to diet and is prone to recurring. So why does gout recur?

The main cause of gout attacks is the presence of inducing factors such as excessive fatigue, staying up late and drinking on the basis of persistent high uric acid levels. In addition, drastic fluctuations in uric acid can also trigger gout attacks. Many gout patients believe that if the pain stops after taking analgesics and uric acid-lowering drugs, they no longer need to take uric acid-lowering drugs. In fact, the absence of gout attacks does not mean that the disease is cured. The key to treatment is to control the blood uric acid level below normal. Therefore, the blood uric acid level should be checked regularly, preferably once a month. In this way, the medication can be adjusted according to the blood uric acid level.

What should gout patients do?

1. Limit the total daily energy. Gout patients should control their weight for gout treatment. The total daily energy should be reduced by 10% to 15% compared with normal people. Do not eat too many snacks, and do not eat too much or too full at each meal. However, heat energy should be gradually reduced. Excessive weight loss can cause ketoacidosis, which can induce an acute attack of gout, which is not conducive to gout treatment. When the condition is more serious, plant protein should be the main source of energy, and carbohydrates should be the main source of energy.

2. Eat mainly alkaline foods. Uric acid is easily dissolved in an alkaline environment, so you should eat more alkaline foods such as vegetables, fruits, nuts, and milk. During the acute attack period, you can eat 1 to 1.5 kilograms of vegetables or an appropriate amount of fruit every day. You can adopt a cyclical plant-based diet, such as cucumber day, watermelon day, apple day, etc., twice a week with a gap of 3 days. The intake of vitamin B and vitamin C should also be increased. A large amount of vitamin B and vitamin C can promote the dissolution of urate accumulated in tissues. These are also relatively effective methods for treating gout.

3. Promote blood circulation. Take hot baths or soak your feet in hot water frequently to promote blood circulation. Increasing uric acid excretion can also treat gout.

4. Drink water frequently and never drink alcohol. Adequate water is beneficial to the excretion of uric acid. It is recommended to drink more than 3000 ml of water every day. Also pay attention to hydration at night. This is also one of the tricks for treating gout. Alcohol can reduce the kidney's ability to excrete uric acid. Beer also contains a large amount of purine and should be absolutely prohibited. Other foods that can excite the nerves, such as strong tea, coffee and spicy condiments, should also be avoided.

5. If you suffer from gout, you should first limit your purine intake, which should be controlled below 150 mg per day. During the 2-3 days of an acute attack, choose foods with little or no purine, and avoid foods with extremely high purine content. During the chronic phase, you can completely choose foods with very little or no purine for at least two days a week, and a low-purine diet can be chosen on the other days.
