What is vaginal herpes? How to check?

1. Acetic acid white test

The principle of the acetic acid whitening test is the result of protein coagulation and whitening with acid. The keratin produced by HPV-infected cells is different from that produced by normal uninfected epithelial cells, and the former can be decolorized by acetic acid. The US CDC reminds that the acetic acid white test is not a specific test, but false positives are common.

2. Pathological examination

Pathological examination is a highly accurate method for detecting genital warts. Start with the symptoms of genital warts and determine whether it is genital warts through examination. Pathological examination mainly shows parakeratosis, hypertrophy of the stratum spinosum, papilloma-like hyperplasia, thickening and elongation of the epidermal processes, and the degree of hyperplasia may be similar to pseudoepitheliomas.

3. Viral wart antibody test

At present, HPV is difficult to detect using traditional viral culture and serological techniques, and the main experimental diagnostic technology is nucleic acid hybridization. The PCR method developed in recent years has the advantages of specificity, sensitivity, simplicity and rapidity, opening up a new way for the detection of HPV virus.

IV: Histochemical examination

A small amount of lesion tissue from a patient with genital warts is made into a smear and stained with specific anti-human papillomavirus antibodies. If there are viral antigens in the lesions, the antigens and antibodies will combine. In the peroxidase antiperoxidase method, nuclei can be stained red. This method is highly specific and rapid, and is helpful for diagnosis.

V. Immunohistological examination

The peroxidase antiperoxidase method is commonly used to show viral proteins in warts and to prove the presence of viral antigens in wart lesions. When HPV protein is positive, a weak red positive reaction may appear in the superficial epithelial cells of genital warts.
