Side effects of Stemona

Side effects of Stemona

Stemona is a plant and also a medicine. However, we know that no matter what kind of medicine it is, as long as it is a medicine, it will have certain side effects. As the saying goes, "All medicines are poisonous", so we still have to take good care of our bodies and ensure that the body's nutrients are fully absorbed. We should not develop a picky eating habit, because only by not being picky can we better absorb the nutrients of different foods.

However, food has two sides. For example, food itself has no side effects, but if you eat it with some incompatible foods without knowing it, the consequences will be disastrous. So the first thing you need to do before eating these foods is to understand their benefits and harms. So what are the side effects of Baibu?

Side effects of Stemona

1. Adverse Reactions

1 Traditional Literature

"Compendium of Materia Medica": non-toxic.

2 Toxicology test

Toxic reaction: Stemonine can cause picrotoxin-like convulsions.

Very low toxicity. Its monomeric bioalkali has certain toxicity.

3 Clinical observation

Non-toxic. Taking raw Stemona japonica radix decocted in water at regular doses can cause adverse reactions such as nausea, dizziness, and chest tightness.

Steaming and roasting Stemona buds with honey can reduce adverse reactions. There are generally no adverse reactions when taking it in water decoction or for a long time within the regular dose, but large doses may still cause reactions such as nausea and dizziness.

2. Pharmacology (Toxicology)

Excessive intake of Stemonine can reduce the excitability of the respiratory center, leading to paralysis of the respiratory center. In vitro tests showed that the alcohol extract of Stemona japonica has an inhibitory effect on H37RV human tuberculosis at a concentration of 1:100-1:1600, and can kill it within 10 minutes at a concentration of 1:80.

In addition, the decoction of Stemona japonica also has a certain inhibitory effect on a variety of bacteria and skin fungi.

It can also reduce the pathogenicity of Asian influenza A virus to mice. It also has a therapeutic effect on infected mice.

Experiments using Newcastle virus cultured in chicken embryos showed that Stemona japonica could extend the life of chicken embryos by 36 hours. When rat crickets were placed in 50% Stemona solution, a few of them died after 11 hours, and all of them died after 20 hours.

3. Usage and Dosage

For internal use: decoct in water, 1-3 qian; soak in wine or make into pills or powder. For external use: decoct in water for washing or grind into powder for application.

4. Avoid using the medicine

Use with caution if you have heat in the spleen and stomach. Depei Materia Medica: "It is forbidden to use in patients with heat cough, water deficiency and fire inflammation.

The above describes the side effects of Stemona japonica. We know that it can be consumed in moderation for some diseases that require Stemona japonica to treat, but it should not be consumed in excess, as this may cause vomiting and dizziness. In fact, any medicine must be taken in the correct dosage. If you take it in excess to relieve pain, it is a very dangerous behavior, so it is important to correctly understand their advantages and disadvantages.
