Precautions after angiography

Precautions after angiography

When it comes to angiography, many people may not have heard of it, and naturally have no understanding of it, so let alone what precautions should be taken after angiography, which they will not even know. The so-called angiography is actually just a medical technology in today's medical field, which is usually used to detect diseases. Of course, imaging technology can detect multiple diseases, which is generally known to those of us in the medical field.

Imaging is a very important thing. Sometimes, when people have certain doubts about the diagnosis of their disease, they can confirm it through imaging. Therefore, in medicine, imaging technology can also be used to identify diseases. Well, in response to this phenomenon, let's introduce in detail the precautions after angiography.

Common imaging techniques

1. Upper gastrointestinal tract radiography

Upper gastrointestinal tract radiography, commonly known as barium meal, refers to an examination method that uses barium sulfate as a contrast agent to show the presence or absence of lesions in the digestive tract under X-ray irradiation. It includes esophageal radiography, esophagogastrostomy, and small enterography.

Notes on imaging:

Do not take medicines containing iron, iodine, sodium, bismuth, silver, etc. 2 days before the examination. It is not advisable to eat too much fiber and indigestible food one day before the angiography. The night before the angiography, eat food with little residue, such as soy milk, noodles, porridge, etc.

Please note that you are not allowed to eat or drink anything, including drinking water or taking any medicine, on the morning of the angiography.

For patients who are going to undergo barium enema colonography, it is recommended that they be accompanied by a family member who understands Mandarin. Good cooperation of the patient is the key to a successful angiography examination. Small enterography requires repeated examinations. Patients must follow the instructions of the radiologist in the department of radiology.

During the examination, barium sulfate needs to be introduced into the patient's gastrointestinal tract. Barium sulfate has no toxic side effects on the human body. Patients with long-term constipation can take laxatives to speed up the excretion of barium sulfate.

2. Colonography

Colonography or barium enema

Inspection notes:

a. Do not take medicines containing iron, iodine, sodium, bismuth, silver, etc. 2 days before the examination.

b. It is not advisable to eat too much fiber and indigestible food one day before the angiography. The night before the angiography, eat food with little residue, such as soy milk, noodles, porridge, etc.

c. Pay special attention to not eating or drinking anything on the morning of the angiography, including drinking water and taking medicines.

d. The patient needs to take laxatives strictly according to the instructions on the night before the examination to prepare the intestines, fast on the next morning, and empty the stool before the examination to ensure that there is no feces in the excrement before doing the barium enema.

e. On the day of the examination, you should avoid wearing clothes with a lot of metal patterns. Before the examination, you should remove jewelry, belts, coins, keys and other items in your pocket that may cause artifacts.

f. It is recommended that the patient be accompanied by a family member who understands Mandarin. Good cooperation of the patient is the key to a successful angiography examination.

3. T-tube angiography

T-tube angiography is the main method for observing the bile duct after biliary surgery. Patients need to undergo iodine allergy test before angiography. Iodine-containing contrast agents, disinfection equipment, spare drainage bags, etc. are prepared by clinical doctors, and patients only need to follow the doctor's instructions and cooperate.

Patient Notes:

Patients need to undergo iodine allergy test before angiography.

4. Intravenous pyelography

Intravenous pyelography is an imaging method that diagnoses urinary system diseases by injecting iodine-containing contrast agents intravenously and observing their accumulation in the kidneys, ureters, and bladder.

Note:

a. The patient needs to take laxatives strictly according to the instructions (appointment form) one night before the examination and prepare the intestines.

b. Before contrast imaging, an iodine allergy test must be performed. Even patients with negative iodine allergy tests may still have allergic reactions, so they should be closely observed during the angiography process and maintain close contact with the medical staff present. The iodine allergy test for outpatients is conducted in the outpatient injection room, and the test for inpatients is conducted by the corresponding patient.

c. Do not eat or drink anything on the day of the examination, and limit your water intake. You must empty your bladder.

5. Hysterosalpingography

Hysterosalpingography is an examination method in which contrast agent is injected into the uterine cavity and fallopian tubes through a catheter, and X-ray fluoroscopy and filming are performed using an X-ray diagnostic device. The appearance of the contrast agent in the fallopian tube and pelvic cavity is used to determine whether the fallopian tubes are unobstructed, the site of obstruction, and the morphology of the uterine cavity.

To sum up, we have discovered one thing, that is, in fact, in our real life, imaging technology is used to diagnose many diseases, and many diseases also require the use of imaging technology. This shows the importance of imaging technology in modern medicine. At the same time, we also learned some relevant precautions after angiography of various diseases, which will be helpful in our future life.
