What causes gastroptosis?

Causes

1. Weak body

It is more common in people with asthenic body shape, thin body, narrow chest, pale skin, thin subcutaneous fat or muscle malnutrition, free tenth rib, etc. Patients with congenital gastroptosis may often have complications of other internal organs. For example: the obstruction of internal organs such as the kidney, liver, spleen, transverse colon, and uterus is also called total visceral ptosis.

2. Comprehensive factors

Any factors that can affect the lowering of the diaphragm position, such as reduced diaphragm activity, reduced abdominal pressure, weakened abdominal muscle contraction, excessive relaxation of the gastrophrenic ligament, gastrohepatic ligament, gastrosplenic ligament, and gastrocolic ligament, etc., are all causes of gastroptosis.

3. Gastrointestinal diseases

It often coexists with chronic wasting disease or occurs after recovery from a serious illness; it is a complication of other digestive system diseases, such as chronic gastritis, gorilla ulcer, etc.; abdominal muscle relaxation or decreased intra-abdominal pressure, such as women giving birth multiple times, abdominal tumor resection, sudden weight loss, or increased intrathoracic pressure, such as long-term coughing, stuffiness, downward displacement of the heart, etc., are all causes of gastroptosis.

People with mild sagging generally have no symptoms, while those with obvious sagging have upper abdominal discomfort and fullness, which is more obvious after meals, accompanied by nausea, belching, anorexia, constipation, etc. Sometimes there is a deep dull pain in the abdomen, which is often aggravated after meals, standing and fatigue. People with long-term gastroptosis often have symptoms such as weight loss, fatigue, syncope when standing, hypotension, palpitations, insomnia, and headache.

1. The tenderness in the upper abdomen is not fixed and may change with the body position. In some patients, the sound of water vibrating below the navel can be heard during palpation. In a few patients with obvious sagging, there are also signs of sagging of the liver, right kidney and colon.

2. Ultrasonic examination: After drinking water to fill the stomach cavity, ultrasound will show that the lower edge of the stomach moves down into the pelvic cavity.

3. X-ray barium meal examination: It is the most reliable diagnostic method for gastroptosis. The degree of gastroptosis is mild if the lesser curvature notch is 1 to 5 cm below the level of the iliac crest line, moderate if it is 6 to 10 cm, and severe if it is more than 11 cm.
