Why does urine smell fishy?

Why does urine smell fishy?

Some people's urine always has a fishy smell, especially the first urine in the morning. The fishy smell is particularly strong, and it is more serious after drinking. Many people are not quite clear about what factors cause urine to have this fishy smell. In traditional Chinese medicine, people with excessive heart fire tend to have smelly urine. Such people should eat more green vegetables and coarse grains and less greasy food. Additionally, urinary tract infections can also cause fishy-smelling urine.

1. What causes urine to smell fishy?

1. Consider that it is caused by urinary tract infection. But other diseases cannot be ruled out. You should drink more water and avoid spicy and irritating foods. You can take anti-inflammatory drugs. It is best to go to the hospital for a check-up so that you can receive symptomatic treatment. I wish you good health.

2. According to traditional Chinese medicine, people with smelly urine usually have excessive heart fire. Do not eat the following foods: oil-pressed, pickled foods, cola, hamburgers, milk, sugar, nuts, beans, and meat dishes. Drink 3 liters of water a day (this is very important). Eat more vegetables, rice, and whole grains.

2. What do different urine odors mean?

1. Foul smell

This is a sign of bacterial infection, most likely an infection with the large intestine bacteria. In patients with vesicocolonic fistula, feces in the intestines can enter the bladder through the fistula and dissolve in the urine, so the excreted urine usually has a fecal odor. In addition, patients with urachal fecal fistula have feces leaking out of the umbilical fistula, and patients with fecal incontinence cannot control their bowel movements, and their bodies may also emit an unpleasant fecal odor.

2. Maple syrup flavor

Also known as burnt caramel, this is the most common odor emitted by patients with maple syrup urine disease. Maple syrup urine disease is an autosomal recessive genetic disorder. Its harm lies in that it can poison brain cells, cause serious damage to brain tissue, cause the patient's intelligence to decline significantly, and even become an idiot.

3. Urine smell

Patients with chronic nephritis or kidney disease progress to the stage of chronic renal failure (commonly known as uremia). Due to anuria, certain toxic substances cannot be excreted from the body and are retained in the blood, and their bodies may also emit an unpleasant urine odor.

4. Rotten cabbage smell

Due to the lack of tyrosine convertase in the body, tyrosine metabolism is impaired and retained in the blood, causing the body to emit a strange smell similar to rotten cabbage. Patients generally show slow growth and development and may often suffer from hypoglycemia, syncope or convulsions.

5. Rotten apple smell

When the condition of a diabetic patient is serious, a large amount of fat is oxidized in the liver to produce ketone bodies, which diffuse into the blood, causing acetone to be present in the exhaled breath. The patient's exhaled gas will then smell like rotten apples, prompting you to check your blood sugar and blood ketone bodies.

6. Cat urine smell

It is common in hyperglycinemia, an amino acid metabolism disorder. Patients show symptoms of mental retardation, osteoporosis, decrease in white blood cells and platelets in the blood, and are prone to infection or bleeding.

7. The smell of ammonia

The volatile acid in normal urine will produce an ammonia smell due to the decomposition of urea by bacteria after being left for a while. If fresh urine has an ammonia odor, it often indicates chronic urinary retention.
