Neurological spasms rarely occur in our real life. However, this situation does happen from time to time. The so-called nervous spasm is commonly known as cramps. I believe many people have seen it, especially the elderly and children, it happens frequently. It is usually caused by muscle tension. The occurrence of this situation indicates that there is something wrong with your body, so you must go to the hospital for examination in time. If it is mild, you will recover quickly. Next, we will talk specifically about the specific symptoms of neurotic spasms.

Symptoms:

The severity of the convulsions varies. They worsen when you are nervous, emotionally excited or tired, and disappear when you are quiet or sleeping. The disease occurs throughout the body and is characterized by involuntary convulsions. Among them, facial spasm and hemifacial muscle twitching can affect the entire facial muscles on one side. Seizures are usually limited to one side; bilateral seizures are rare. The disease develops slowly and progressively and generally does not resolve spontaneously. Some patients experience paralysis and atrophy of the muscles on the affected side in the late stages, and convulsions also stop. In the early stage of the disease, when facial muscle twitching is limited to the orbicularis oculi muscle, it should be differentiated from functional eyelid spasm, which does not extend to the lower face and is often bilateral. When facial muscle spasms are accompanied by other cranial nerve damage, or limb dysfunction, or involuntary limb movements, intracranial lesions should be considered and the patient needs to go to the hospital for diagnosis and treatment.

First aid measures:

Hand spasm treatment: Gently straighten your fingers. Spread your fingers, press your fingertips, and massage your muscles.

Treatment for calf cramps: Do lunges, move the cramped leg backward and press your body down.

Thigh cramps: Sit on the floor with your thighs straight, then press your knees down to straighten your thigh muscles.

Foot cramps: Have the person lie down, straighten their knee and toes, and press the foot firmly toward the shin, massaging the contracted muscle.

[1] If you get calf cramps while swimming, don't panic. Take a deep breath, submerge your head in the water, float your back on the surface, grab your toes with both hands, and pull them toward you. If it doesn’t work the first time, try repeating it a few times and the muscles will slowly relax and return to their original state. If you try to get ashore by force, you will often end up drowning.

[2] In daily life, when your calf cramps, you can quickly pinch the Hegu point on your hand and the Ren Zhong point on your upper lip. After pinching for 20 to 30 seconds, the effective relief rate can reach 90%.

[3] When your leg cramps, lift the instep of your foot up as far as possible and keep it in this position. The cramp will usually be relieved within 30 seconds. Then keep the instep of your foot in the upturned position for about 3 minutes to consolidate the therapeutic effect.

[4] Press the base of your palms on the inner and outer sides of the calves, apply relative force and massage the gastrocnemius muscle for 2 minutes to relieve calf swelling and pain.

[5] Applying a hot water bottle locally can also help relieve cramps. For leg cramps caused by calcium deficiency in the body, a doctor's prescription for calcium supplementation is required to completely cure it.

Causes of spasms:

①Cold stimulation. Such as exercising in a cold environment in winter. Insufficient warm-up exercises or lower water temperature during swimming in summer can easily cause leg cramps. If you don't cover yourself with a blanket when you sleep at night, your calf muscles will be stimulated by the cold. The spasms would be so painful that they would wake people up.

②Muscles contract continuously too quickly. During strenuous exercise. The whole body is in a state of tension and the leg muscles contract too quickly. If the relaxation time is too short, the local metabolic product lactic acid will increase, and muscle contraction and relaxation will be difficult to coordinate, thus causing calf muscle cramps.

③Excessive sweating. Long exercise time. You exercise a lot, sweat a lot, and don't replenish salt in time. A large amount of fluid and electrolytes are lost from the body. Accumulation of metabolic waste. Poor local blood circulation in muscles can also lead to cramps.

④Excessive fatigue. The calf muscles are most susceptible to fatigue when traveling long distances, climbing mountains, or climbing heights. Because every time I climb high. The whole body weight is supported by one foot. The strength required for the muscles of this leg to lift the foot will be six times the human body weight. When it is fatigued to a certain extent, cramps will occur.

⑤ Calcium deficiency. During muscle contraction. Calcium ions play an important role. When the calcium ion concentration in the blood is too low, muscles become easily excited and cramp. Teenagers grow and develop rapidly and are easily deficient in calcium, which is why they often suffer from leg cramps.

⑥ Upper motor neuron damage. The central inhibitory effect on peripheral nerves weakens or disappears, causing increased muscle tone and even muscle spasms.

Cramp prevention:

① Pay attention to supplementing calcium and vitamin D. You can take calcium tablets or eat calcium-rich foods such as dried shrimps, milk, and soy products.

② Strengthen physical exercise and do sufficient warm-up exercises during exercise to make the body move. This will help the blood circulation in the lower limbs to be smooth, and you can avoid leg cramps when participating in various intense sports or competitions.

③ Pay attention to keeping warm and prevent local muscles from getting cold.
