TCM treatment of rectal prolapse

There are two treatment methods for rectal prolapse: surgical treatment and conservative drug treatment. However, traditional Chinese medicine is also relatively effective. However, you must pay attention to the correct drug formula. The treatment introduced below is relatively effective for rectal prolapse using traditional Chinese medicine.

1. Dry ginger and rice for treating rectal prolapse

【Functions and indications】Warming and tonifying. Mainly used to treat rectal prolapse.

[Ingredients of the folk remedy] 9 grams of dried ginger, 9 grams of aconite, 12 grams of red ochre, and 12 grams of polished rice.

[Usage and Dosage] Take one dose per day, decocted in water.

【Case Verification】Zhang, male, 75 years old. The patient has had rectal prolapse for 9 years, with symptoms of diarrhea, occasional abdominal pain and prolapse, clear watery stool, more than 20 bowel movements a day, frequent vomiting, and poor appetite. Use ginger and aconite to enhance the effect of warming yang. After taking 5 doses in a row, all symptoms were relieved.

2. Ginseng and Cimicifuga for treating rectal prolapse

[Functions and indications] Tonifies Qi and generates Yang, astringes the intestines and raises Yang. Mainly used to treat rectal prolapse.

[Ingredients of the folk remedy] 10 grams each of ginseng (stewed separately) and cimicifuga, 80 grams of roasted astragalus, and 3 black plums.

[Usage and Dosage] Add 600 ml of water to the last three ingredients, boil until 250 ml remains, take the juice, add 300 ml of water again, boil until 100 ml remains, mix the two medicinal liquids evenly, take twice a day in the morning and evening, and combine with the external wash recipe: 20 grams each of black plum and gallnut, 30 grams each of honeysuckle and phellodendron. Add 3000 ml of water, boil it down to 2500 ml, put it in a basin, wait until it is warm, and use it as a sitz bath to wash the anus, once in the morning and once in the evening.

[Case Verification] 12 cases of rectal prolapse were treated and cured (rectal prolapse was completely reduced and no recurrence was observed during 1 year of follow-up). The medication was generally taken for 5 to 10 doses, and up to 16 doses.

3. Golden cherry cures rectal prolapse

【Functions and indications】Mainly used to treat rectal prolapse.

[Ingredients of the folk remedy] 60-80 grams of Smilax glabra, 40-50 grams of Chrysanthemum root, 10-15 grams of Cimicifuga heracleifolia, and 8-12 grams of raw licorice.

[Usage and Dosage] Decoction the above medicines 3 times and then combine the liquid medicines. Take orally in 2 to 3 times, 1 dose per day. The dosage for children should be reduced accordingly.

[Case Verification] This prescription was used to treat 19 patients with rectal prolapse, and all of them recovered after taking 5 to 10 doses of the medicine.

4. Codonopsis and Citrus aurantium for treating rectal prolapse

[Functions and indications] It can tonify the middle and replenish Qi, raise Yang Qi, and treat anal prolapse.

[Composition of the folk remedy] 12 grams each of Codonopsis pilosula, Atractylodes macrocephala, Angelica sinensis, Bupleurum chinense, Angelica dahurica, and Red ochre, 9 grams of dried tangerine peel, 6 grams each of Chuanxiong and roasted licorice, 6-9 grams of Cimicifuga heracleifolia, 8 grams of Coptis chinensis, 10 grams of Scutellaria baicalensis, 15-30 grams of Citrus aurantium, and 30-60 grams of roasted Astragalus membranaceus.

[Usage and Dosage] Take 1 dose daily, decocted in water and taken in 2 doses.

[Addition and Subtraction] For patients with II and III degree prolapse, use the above dosage. If necessary, the dosage of Citrus aurantium can be increased to 60-120 grams. If it is I degree prolapse and there is no obvious exudation, the dosage of Coptis chinensis, Scutellaria baicalensis, Angelica dahurica, Red Ochre, Ligusticum chuanxiong, etc. can be halved. Depending on the condition of the disease, fumigation and washing medicine can be used as appropriate: 30 grams each of raw rhubarb and Sophora flavescens, 60 grams of Glauber's salt, decocted in water twice and used to fumigate and wash the affected area.

[Case Verification] We once treated a case of rectal prolapse. The patient showed improvement after 2 doses of the medicine and showed significant improvement after 6 doses.
