Lichen planus, a common skin inflammation

Lichen planus, a common skin inflammation

The cause of lichen linearis planus is unclear. It is a skin inflammation that is most common in children. A rash will suddenly appear on the skin, and some patients will experience itchy skin. Sometimes it will disappear on its own without the need for treatment, but it can be treated with medication if necessary.

1. Symptoms and Signs

It mostly occurs in children aged 5 to 15 years old, but can also be seen in infants and adults, with females slightly more likely to develop the disease than males. The rash occurs suddenly. At first, it is normal skin color or grayish white. It is about the size of a pinhead to a millet grain. It is polygonal or round flat papules with a slightly shiny surface and covered with a small amount of scales. During the course of the disease, the papules increase in number and density, and are arranged in continuous or discontinuous stripes or lines of varying lengths, widths and thickness. The rash is mostly unilateral and rarely bilateral. Sometimes the lesions can extend to the same length as the limbs and are mostly distributed along blood vessels and nerves. Skin lesions often occur around the neck and limbs, especially on the upper limbs, but can also be seen on the abdomen, buttocks or various parts of the trunk. The subjective symptoms are not obvious. A few patients have mild itching. If it occurs in the diaper area of babies, there will be severe itching. The course of the disease is chronic. Usually the rash disappears on its own after a few weeks or months. After recovery, the skin returns to normal, or temporary hypopigmented spots remain. In a few cases, the disease persists for a longer period of time.

2. Medication

The disease is self-limiting and resolves on its own without requiring special treatment. If the condition persists for a long time, you can apply corticosteroid emulsion or salicylic acid alcohol externally. The boundary line can promote its early disappearance. You can also apply Chinese medicinal maple seed oil or egg yolk oil externally.

3. Diet and health care

Depending on the different symptoms, there are different dietary requirements. Please ask the doctor specifically and formulate different dietary standards for specific diseases.

4. Preventive Care

Remove possible inducing factors and avoid local irritation.

5. Pathological causes

The cause is not yet clear. Some believe that it is related to spinal nerve dysfunction. Trauma or local compression may be the cause of the disease. Whether it is related to viral infection has not yet been confirmed.
