Why do hands sweat?

Every summer, because of the hot weather, everyone will sweat more or less. Sweating can help us regulate the temperature in our body. Generally speaking, the amount of sweating is higher in places where sweat glands are more developed, such as the forehead and armpits. In fact, the skin on other parts of our body also sweats, but the amount of sweat is less. So, why do our hands always sweat a lot if the temperature is not high?

Hand sweating disease, also known as hyperhidrosis of the hands, is a fairly common functional local abnormal sweating of unknown cause. Because of its racial specificity, young people growing up in subtropical areas are particularly prone to this problem. The secretion of sweat glands is controlled by the sympathetic nervous system, and hyperhidrosis of the palms is caused by excessive tension of the sympathetic nervous system for unknown reasons, such as tension, excitement, stress or high temperatures in summer, which causes abnormally increased sweating of the palms.

Hyperhidrosis is not a disease, but just an overexcitement of the sympathetic nerves. However, this symptom often causes problems in study, work or social life, and patients seek medical treatment. People who tend to sweat too much have wet palms most of the time, and long-term wet hands often cause peeling, which is unsightly. School-age teenagers often have their test papers wet due to excessive hand sweat, which affects their performance in exams. Often, the test papers become wet before they are even written. Teenagers are afraid to hold hands with others, and even shaking hands becomes a problem. In severe cases, the palms may even show symptoms of eczema dermatitis. As adults, this also causes inconvenience to them in work and social activities. Patients with hyperhidrosis often have sweating on their hands and feet, and their sweat usually has no odor, which is different from patients with body odor. For people with body odor (excessive sweating and odor under the arms), it is more related to genetic constitution, mainly because the sebaceous glands in the armpits are well developed. The chance of occurrence is higher than that of hyperhidrosis of the hands, and the trouble caused is also more common. For example, there are always yellow stains on clothes that cannot be washed off, and I dare not wear sleeveless tops. The most important thing is that when getting close to people, I have an inexplicable psychological burden and fear.

Hyperhidrosis and facial flushing are the most common. Hyperhidrosis patients always have excessive sweating, dampness and coldness on their palms, soles of feet and armpits, no matter whether it is scorching summer or freezing cold. Sometimes the sweat appears in beads, and it is more serious when they are nervous. I often soak the paper when writing, wet the keyboard when typing, and I dare not shake hands with others. Patients with "head sweating" and "facial flushing" may sweat profusely and have a red and hot face in public places, when giving reports at meetings, when meeting strangers, when meeting familiar leaders, when nervous and excited, when exercising, when meeting the opposite sex, when discussing sensitive topics, etc.

Although these are not serious diseases, excessive sweating and/or blushing make patients feel helpless, anxious or panic every day, causing great inconvenience to their work, social life and life, and seriously affecting their self-confidence. The psychological pain suffered by patients is so great that it is difficult for ordinary people to understand. Non-surgical treatments for hyperhidrosis, capitis, and facial flushing (erythrophobia) have little effect and have long been difficult and complicated diseases.
