Causes of brown spots under eyes

Causes of brown spots under eyes

The eyes are the windows to the human soul. Having a pair of bright big eyes with distinct black and white will add a lot of points to yourself. There is no need to say much about the importance of eyes. Without eyes, many things cannot be done. Therefore, everyone is very concerned about the eyes. Once there is a problem, it makes people nervous. For example, when there are brown spots in the eyes, people will be afraid that something has grown and whether it will affect their vision. Let’s talk about the reasons for this phenomenon.

There are two types of pigmentation:

One type is pigments produced by the human body itself, such as melanin produced by melanocytes in the skin. Melanin appears in different tones due to the different depths of its location: black or brown in the epidermis, gray-blue in the shallow dermis, and cyan in the deep dermis. Other endogenous pigments include lipopigments, bile pigments, etc.

The other type is exogenous foreign pigments, such as carotene (carotenemia), drugs (such as atrazine can cause yellowing of the skin, etc.) and heavy metals (such as arsenic, bismuth, silver, etc. deposition) and coloring caused by foreign bodies, such as tattoos, mud, iron slag, coal slag, etc. deposition on the skin (Baidu Encyclopedia). Therefore, your conjunctival pigmentation may have been present since birth but you have not noticed it, or it may have been caused by foreign matter, such as heavy metals, entering your eyes and causing long-term deposition.

Conjunctival pigmented nevus is mostly a congenital benign tumor that originates from the neuroectoderm. It is a proliferative lesion of conjunctival melanocytes and is commonly found in the bulbar conjunctiva at the corneal margin or palpebral fissure. It is usually not obvious at birth, does not grow or grows slowly with age, and becomes more obvious during puberty (10 or before 20 years old). It is especially prone to growth in those with a history of allergies. Irregularly round, of varying sizes, slightly raised, with a smooth surface, generally black in varying shades. It may become slightly larger and darker in color during pregnancy. Malignant transformation is rare (less than 1% chance). No treatment is needed if the tumor is fixed and not growing. If it affects the appearance, it can be removed and supplemented with cryosurgery to prevent recurrence. Sudden acceleration of growth may be a sign of malignant transformation and requires complete removal and submission for pathology.
