Early symptoms of head tumors

Early symptoms of head tumors

Head tumor is also a relatively common disease. Because the tumor occurs in a special location, it is particularly harmful to human health. Sometimes it is difficult to treat. When a head tumor occurs, it will manifest as a variety of symptoms, the most common of which are nausea, vomiting, dizziness, etc. Sometimes it will have a significant impact on vision and even cause mental disorders or impaired consciousness.

Early symptoms of head tumors include: 1. Headache, nausea, vomiting. Headache is mostly located in the forehead and temporal area. It is a persistent headache that worsens in paroxysmal periods. The headache is often worse in the morning and can be normal during the intervals. 2. Papilledema and decreased vision. 3. Mental and consciousness disorders and other symptoms: dizziness, diplopia, amaurosis fugax, cataplexy, confusion, mental restlessness or apathy, epilepsy, and even coma. 4. Changes in vital signs: Moderate and severe acute increase in intracranial pressure often causes slower breathing and pulse, and increased blood pressure.

What are the common brain tumors? 1. Glioma Glioma is the most common, accounting for 40% to 50% of intracranial tumors. It originates from brain glial cells, grows in an infiltrative manner, has no complete capsule, and is not easy to completely remove during surgery. In adults, most of them grow in the cerebral hemispheres and ventricles, while in children, they tend to grow in the cerebellar hemispheres and brain stem. Pathological classification includes astrocytoma, ependymoma, oligodendroglioma, medulloblastoma, etc. The treatment is mainly surgical, which can be completely or partially removed with naked eye, followed by chemotherapy or radiotherapy. But it is prone to relapse and the prognosis is poor. 2. Intracranial tumors : It is reported that gliomas originate from the glial cells in the brain and are the most common intracranial tumors, accounting for about 45% of all intracranial tumors. It ranks second among childhood malignant tumors. In the past 30 years, the incidence of primary malignant brain tumors has increased year by year, with an annual growth rate of about 1.2%, which is particularly evident in the middle-aged and elderly population. According to literature reports, the annual incidence of brain glioma in China is 3-6 people per 100,000 people, and the annual death toll reaches 30,000.

3. Meningiomas originate from arachnoid granulations, are usually benign, grow in an expansive manner, and have a complete capsule. Most of them can be completely removed and achieve lifelong cure after surgery. A small number of them are malignant meningiomas with poor prognosis.

4. Pituitary adenoma . It originates from the anterior pituitary gland, and endocrine symptoms appear first. For example, growth hormone tumors can cause gigantism in children and acromegaly in adults; prolactinomas can cause amenorrhea and lactation in women of childbearing age. When the tumor grows to a certain extent, it breaks through the septum sellae and grows upward, causing symmetrical visual impairment and visual field loss (bitemporal hemianopsia). Surgery can remove most of the tumor, followed by postoperative radiotherapy, with good results. 5. Acoustic neuroma . The first symptoms are tinnitus and hearing loss. Some patients may experience deafness. In the late stage, there may be symptoms such as choking, slurred speech, damage to the posterior cranial nerves, brainstem compression, and increased intracranial pressure. The treatment of choice is total surgical resection. Some patients may suffer from varying degrees of facial paralysis after surgery due to damage to the facial nerve.
