Different patients with liver disease have different manifestations in the liver area, and there are many causes: people often feel a pricking pain in the liver area, or a stuffy discomfort, which comes and goes, as if something is stuck there. Most people can tolerate it, but it becomes obvious when they are angry, tired, active, or have eaten too much greasy, spicy or sour food. It can be relieved by bed rest or psychological conditioning. Some patients will experience radiation to the left side or to the back and shoulder, and feel a heaviness in the back. A small number of patients with liver disease may experience significant pain in the liver area, but this type of pain is rarely caused by chronic liver disease.
