Foods high in purine

Foods high in purine

Many people are not very careful about their daily diet and always eat random things. The most important thing is that their eating habits are not so regular, so it is very likely to cause some harm to their bodies. Even patients who are prone to gout should pay more attention to their diet. They cannot eat any food containing high purine. These foods will cause the patient's condition to become more serious and prone to relapse.

Foods containing purine

The first category of food contains the highest purine, and the levels decrease in sequence.

The first category of foods high in purine (100-1000 mg of purine per 100 g of food)

2. Vegetables: cabbage, cabbage, carrots, celery, cucumbers, eggplants, kale, turnips, cabbage, lettuce, sword beans, pumpkins, squash, zucchini, tomatoes, yams, potatoes, kimchi, pickles

3. Fruits: various fruits.

4Eggs, dairy products: fresh milk, condensed milk, cheese, yogurt, malted milk

5. Beverages: soda, tea, coffee, cocoa, chocolate

Other foods: various oils, peanut butter, agar jelly, jam, dried fruits, etc.

The sweetness in beverages comes partly from fructose-rich corn syrup. Population surveys have found that the effect of large amounts of fructose intake on blood uric acid is similar to that of high-purine foods such as red meat; sweet drinks rich in fructose can significantly increase blood uric acid levels. The reason may be that fructose increases uric acid production. At the same time, fructose aggravates fat accumulation, increases insulin resistance, and reduces renal uric acid excretion. The two complement each other and promote increased blood uric acid levels. Therefore, in addition to limiting purine intake, gout patients should also pay attention to fructose intake, otherwise the goal of reducing gout attacks cannot be achieved.

Artificially increasing fructose intake every day would undoubtedly make his condition worse, so it is not difficult to understand why gout recurred in a short period of time. Also, it’s important to note that carbohydrates are a major component of a traditional low-purine diet, which includes many fructose-rich foods. In daily life, in addition to sugary drinks, fruits with high fructose content such as apples, pears, grapes, pomegranates, etc. should also be limited. According to the Chinese Dietary Guidelines, daily fruit intake should not exceed 400 grams.
