How many times does it take to complete a tooth filling?

If tooth decay or tooth damage occurs in daily life, it needs to be treated in time. As for the number of fillings, it depends on the specific symptoms. Some tooth decay is not particularly serious, and the tooth decay can be filled with filling materials. Generally speaking, it can be completed in one visit. However, some caries are more serious and may require 2 to 4 visits to be completely cured.

How many times does it take to complete a tooth filling?

The number of fillings required depends on the extent of tooth decay. If the tooth is only superficially decayed, i.e. shallow and moderate caries, and the lesions are limited to the enamel layer or shallow dentin caries, and there is no discomfort, then after the carious tissue is removed, the cavity can be filled with appropriate filling materials, and this can be completed in one visit.

If the dental caries is deep and the lesions reach the deep layer of the dentin and are close to the pulp cavity, then in most cases there will be reactive changes in the proportions of the pulp group, manifested as a mild chronic inflammatory response in the pulp, i.e. vasodilation, congestion, etc. At this time, the situation is more complicated.

once

The pulp tissue of some patients slowly recovers after being isolated from external stimuli; while the pulp inflammation of other patients continues to develop and becomes irreversible pulpitis. Therefore, you must be especially careful with deep caries. If the patient has no history of spontaneous pain, clinical examination shows that the dental pulp is vital and there is sufficient dentin at the bottom of the cavity, a one-time filling can be completed after appropriate pulp capping and padding of the cavity.

If the patient has had relatively mild pain before and there is still a small amount of diseased tissue at the bottom of the cavity, pulp capping drugs or drugs that have a soothing and analgesic effect on the dental pulp can be placed in the prepared cavity to temporarily seal the caries cavity and observe for about a week before returning for a follow-up visit.

If the patient has no symptoms during this period, the cavity can be permanently filled during the follow-up visit. This requires two fillings in total. If deep caries develops spontaneous pain, night pain, and other symptoms after sealing with medication, it may be pulpitis, in which case pulp disease treatment is required, and more treatments will be required.

2-4 times

Once a tooth develops pulpitis or apical periodontitis, 2-4 follow-up visits are required. This is because the treatment process of pulpitis and apical periodontitis is relatively complicated, and the purpose of anti-inflammatory cannot be achieved with just one medication. First, the infected pulp tissue must be removed, and then the medication must be repeated several times at intervals of several days. Recovery cannot be achieved by relying on systemic medication, but must be removed by a professional physician using dental instruments.

Since each person's situation is different, the number of fillings is also different. Therefore, before filling a tooth, you should ask the doctor to do a specific examination of your oral cavity and develop a treatment plan so that you can reasonably arrange the time for the filling and actively cooperate with the doctor to do the filling work.
