Rectal prolapse is a relatively common anorectal disease. Some symptoms will appear in the early stage of the disease. Patients must understand this and try to get good treatment as soon as possible in the early stage. The earlier the treatment, the better the effect of the treatment will be. For example, in the early stage, the mucosa will prolapse from the anus and can retract by itself. This is a relatively common early symptom. In addition, it often causes a small amount of mucus to flow out. The main clinical symptoms of rectal prolapse are as follows: 1. Early stage: mucosa prolapses from the anus after defecation and can retract on its own; later it gradually cannot return on its own and needs to be repositioned by hand. A small amount of mucus often flows out of the anus. There is a feeling of falling and incomplete defecation after defecation, and the frequency of bowel movements increases. 2. Late stage: Rectal prolapse can occur during coughing, sneezing, walking, standing for a long time or with a little force. There is a local swelling sensation after prolapse, and you may also feel pain in the lumbar region. The prolapsed mucosa secretes mucus, and the mucosa is often irritated, causing congestion, edema, erosion and ulcers. The secretion may be mixed with bloody mucus, which irritates the skin around the anus and may cause itching. 3. Incarceration: Due to the relaxation of the anal sphincter, incarceration rarely occurs. Once it occurs, the patient will feel severe local pain, and the swelling cannot be reduced by hand. The anal canal will quickly become swollen and congested, and the mucosal folds will disappear. If not treated promptly, strangulation and necrosis may occur. Clinically, rectal prolapse is divided into three degrees according to the severity of prolapse: first degree is rectal mucosal prolapse, second degree is full-thickness rectal prolapse, and third degree is rectal and sigmoid colon prolapse. What are the symptoms of rectal prolapse? Rectal prolapse is the main symptom of this syndrome. In mild cases, the rectal mucosa prolapses during defecation and can return to its original position on its own after defecation. Over time, it gradually develops into prolapse of the entire thickness of the rectum. In addition to prolapse during defecation, it may also prolapse when coughing, walking, or squatting, and must be pushed back by hand or after resting in bed. If the prolapse is not restored immediately, the rectal mucosa will become congested, edematous, bleeding or eroded. It may be accompanied by moist and itchy skin around the anus, and distension and pain in the lumbar spine and abdomen. If the prolapse time is too long and not restored in time, it may cause incarceration, the mucosa will turn from pink to dark purple, or even erosion and necrosis, swelling and pain, fever, difficulty urinating, tenesmus, and anal swelling and pain. It needs to be differentiated from severe intussusception in which the intussusception part prolapses from the anus and rectal polyps. Rectal polyps can also prolapse from the anus and are small, round and smooth tumors. It must be noted that intussusception can sometimes also be turned out from the anus, similar to rectal prolapse of grade III. If checked with fingers, the mucosal fold between the rectum and anal canal and the prolapsed intestinal canal can be touched. It is not difficult to differentiate based on medical history and physical signs. |
