Prednisone structure diagram Prednisone has anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic effects, can inhibit the proliferation of connective tissue, reduce the permeability of capillary walls and cell membranes, reduce inflammatory exudation, and can inhibit the formation and release of histamine and other toxic substances. This product can also promote the decomposition of protein into sugar and reduce the utilization of glucose. This increases blood sugar and liver glycogen, which may lead to diabetes, while also increasing gastric juice secretion and appetite. When there is a serious toxic infection, it can be used in combination with a large amount of antibacterial drugs to have good cooling, anti-toxic, anti-inflammatory, anti-shock and symptom relief effects. Its water and sodium retention and potassium excretion effects are smaller than those of cortisone, and it has stronger anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic effects and fewer side effects, so it is more commonly used.

This product is white or off-white crystalline powder; odorless.

This product is slightly soluble in ethanol or chloroform and almost insoluble in water.

Specific rotation

Take this product, weigh it accurately, add dioxane to dissolve and quantitatively dilute to make a solution containing about 5 mg per 1 ml. Determine it according to the law (Appendix VI E of Part II of the 2010 edition of the Pharmacopoeia). The specific rotation is +167° to +175°.

Absorption coefficient

Take this product, weigh it accurately, dissolve it in ethanol and quantitatively dilute it to make a solution containing about 15μg per 1ml. Measure the absorbance at a wavelength of 240nm by UV-visible spectrophotometry (Appendix Ⅳ A of Part II of the 2010 edition of the Pharmacopoeia). The absorption coefficient () is 405-435.

Identification

(1) Take about 5 mg of this product and add 2 ml of sulfuric acid to dissolve it. Let it stand for 5 minutes and it will turn orange. Pour this solution into 10 ml of water and the solution will turn yellow and gradually turn blue-green.

(2) In the chromatogram recorded under the assay, the retention time of the major peak of the test solution should be consistent with the retention time of the major peak of the reference solution.
