How to distinguish the severity of coccyx injury

How to distinguish the severity of coccyx injury

In our lives, many people know that the coccyx is very fragile, and if some circumstances cause the coccyx to be injured, the pain will be very obvious, and it is not easy to recover. Many people will choose to go to the hospital for an X-ray after their coccyx is injured to determine whether the coccyx injury is serious. There can be many reasons for coccygeal pain, in addition to trauma, there are also chronic inflammation of the coccygeal joints, bone lesions, and chronic lesions caused by abnormal sitting posture, etc. It is recommended to go to a regular hospital for an X-ray or CT scan to determine the treatment plan. The symptoms of coccyx pain include tenderness near the coccyx in the buttocks or leg pain, covering the coccyx, levator ani muscles and surrounding soft tissues. Now let’s learn how to distinguish the severity of coccyx injury!

1. Classification of sprains

If the sprained area is particularly painful, it is suspected to be a bone fracture. If pressing only causes slight pain, then cartilage damage can be considered. Cartilage damage and new fractures will cause local swelling, pain, etc. Damaged soft tissues (ligaments, cartilage, tendons) are difficult to repair themselves and are generally difficult to detect under X-rays. If X-ray examination shows bone damage, the first thing to do is to actively use medication to treat the symptoms and allow the broken bones to grow and heal quickly. If the X-ray confirms that the bones are not damaged, then the pain is caused by cartilage damage.

2. Dietary adjustment for sprains

Early stage (1-2 weeks): The injured part is swollen and swollen, the meridians are blocked, and the Qi and blood are blocked. The treatment at this stage is mainly to promote blood circulation and remove blood stasis, and promote Qi and dissipate. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that "if blood stasis is not removed, bones cannot grow" and "if blood stasis is removed, new bones will grow." It can be seen that reducing swelling and dispersing blood stasis are the top priorities for fracture healing. In principle, the diet should be light, such as vegetables, eggs, soy products, fruits, fish soup, lean meat, etc. Avoid spicy, dry, hot, and greasy foods. In particular, do not take fatty and nourishing foods too early, such as bone soup, fat chicken, stewed fish, etc. Otherwise, blood stasis will accumulate and be difficult to dissipate, which will inevitably delay the course of the disease, slow the growth of bone callus, and affect the recovery of joint function in the future. During this stage, the diet therapy can use 10 grams of Panax notoginseng, 10 grams of Angelica sinensis, and 1 pigeon. Stew them together until they are soft. Eat the soup and meat together, once a day for 7-10 days. ⑵Middle stage (2-4 weeks): Most of the swelling and bruises are absorbed. The treatment in this stage focuses on harmonizing the meridians to relieve pain, removing blood stasis and promoting new growth, and connecting bones and tendons. The diet should be changed from light to appropriate high-nutrition supplements to meet the needs of callus growth. Bone soup, Panax notoginseng chicken, animal liver, etc. can be added to the initial diet to supplement more vitamins A, D, calcium and protein. For dietotherapy, you can use 10 grams of angelica, 15 grams of bone-healing herb, 10 grams of Dipsacus asper, and 250 grams of fresh pork chops or beef ribs. Stew them for more than 1 hour. Eat the soup and meat together. Use it for 2 consecutive weeks.

Late stage (more than 5 weeks): 5 weeks after the injury, the swelling at the fracture site has been basically absorbed, and bone callus has begun to grow. This is the late stage of the fracture. Treatment should be tonic, by nourishing the liver and kidneys, qi and blood, to promote the formation of a stronger callus, and relax the muscles and tendons, so that the adjacent joints of the fracture can move freely and flexibly and restore their previous functions. Dietary taboos can be lifted, and the recipe can be supplemented with old hen soup, pork bone soup, mutton bone soup, deer tendon soup, stewed water fish, etc. Those who can drink can choose from Eucommia ulmoides and Drynaria wine, Millettia reticulata wine, tiger bone and papaya wine, etc. For diet therapy, you can use 10 grams of wolfberry, 15 grams of bone-healing herb, 10 grams of Dipsacus asper, and 50 grams of Job's tears. First boil Drynaria fortunei and Dipsacus asper to remove the residue, then add the remaining two ingredients to cook porridge and eat. Take once a day, 7 days as a course of treatment. There is a 3-5 day interval between each course of treatment, and 3-4 courses can be used.

3. Taboo Foods

(1) Avoid blindly supplementing calcium. Calcium is an important raw material for the formation of bones. Some people believe that supplementing more calcium after a fracture can accelerate the healing of broken bones. However, scientific research has found that increasing calcium intake does not accelerate the healing of broken bones, and for patients with fractures who are bedridden for a long time, there is a potential risk of increased blood calcium and a decrease in blood phosphorus. This is due to long-term bed rest, which on the one hand inhibits the absorption and utilization of calcium, and on the other hand increases the reabsorption of calcium by the renal tubules. Therefore, for patients with fractures, there is no lack of calcium in the body. As long as they strengthen functional exercises and move as early as possible according to their condition and the doctor's instructions, they can promote the bone's absorption and utilization of calcium and accelerate the healing of broken bones. Especially for patients who are bedridden after a fracture, blindly supplementing calcium is of no benefit and may even be harmful.

(2) Avoid eating too much meat and bones. Some people believe that eating more meat and bones after a fracture can help the fracture heal earlier. In fact, this is not the case. Modern medicine has proved through many practices that if patients with fractures eat more meat and bones, it will not only fail to heal early, but will delay the healing time of the fracture.
