Coccyx pain from falling down stairs

We all know that if you accidentally touch the coccyx, it will cause strong pain, and a coccyx fracture is very painful. You must be very careful when sleeping to prevent accidentally touching the injured coccyx again. However, if it is not too serious, we can take conservative treatment methods, which is to sleep supinely so that the coccyx will not be compressed. Also, when sitting on a chair or sofa, you cannot sit, stand or walk, as this will aggravate the condition. So, let’s find out what to do if you have coccyx pain after falling down the stairs!

Coccyx fracture is quite painful. If it is not too serious, conservative treatment is recommended. The method is to sleep on your side because the coccyx will be compressed when you sleep on your back, causing the symptoms to worsen. When sitting on a chair or sofa, the coccyx will inevitably be compressed. Avoid sitting, standing or walking. Drink more water, eat vegetables rich in fiber, and keep bowel movements open to prevent constipation from irritating the symptoms. When constipation occurs, you can take honey and eat some bananas to relieve constipation. In severe cases, laxatives such as Ma Ren Wan and liquid paraffin can be used. In the first few days, the pain symptoms are obvious and you can take indomethacin (Indomethacin) or ibuprofen (Fenbid) to relieve the pain. Married women should suspend sexual life. Generally, most of the symptoms will disappear in about a month, and there will be no sequelae afterwards. If it is more serious (go to the hospital for an X-ray), consider surgical reduction. It is not a major operation and can be performed by the orthopedic department of a general hospital.

1. Notes

Avoid picky eating. Patients with fractures often have local edema, congestion, bleeding, muscle tissue damage, etc. The body itself has the ability to resist and repair these. The body relies on various nutrients to repair tissues, grow bones and regenerate muscles, form callus, and remove blood stasis and swelling. Therefore, nutrition is the key to ensuring the smooth healing of fractures.

Avoid indigestible food. Fracture patients have limited activities due to plaster or splint fixation, and the injury is swollen and painful, and they are worried, so they often have poor appetite and sometimes constipation. Therefore, food should be nutritious, easy to digest and have a bowel movement. Avoid eating foods that are prone to bloating or indigestion, such as sweet potatoes, taro, and glutinous rice. Eat more fruits and vegetables.

Avoid drinking less water. Bedridden patients with fractures, especially those with spine, pelvis and lower limb fractures, have great inconvenience in movement, so they try to drink less water to reduce the frequency of urination. Although this reduces the frequency of urination, greater troubles are also created. If bedridden patients have less activity, weakened intestinal motility, and drink less water, it is easy to cause constipation. Long-term bed rest and urine retention can easily induce urinary stones and urinary tract infections. Therefore, bedridden patients with fractures can drink water whenever they want without having to worry too much.

Avoid eating too much white sugar. After consuming a large amount of white sugar, it will cause the rapid metabolism of glucose, thereby producing metabolic intermediates such as pyruvate, lactic acid, etc., which will cause the body to be in a state of acidosis. At this time, alkaline calcium, magnesium, sodium and other ions will be immediately mobilized to participate in the neutralization effect to prevent the blood from becoming acidic. Such a large amount of calcium consumption will be detrimental to the recovery of fracture patients. At the same time, too much white sugar will also reduce the content of vitamin B1 in the body. This is because vitamin B1 is a necessary substance for the conversion of sugar into energy in the body. Insufficient vitamin B1 greatly reduces the activity of nerves and muscles and also affects the recovery of function. Therefore, patients with fractures should avoid consuming too much white sugar.

Avoid taking Panax notoginseng tablets for a long time. In the early stage of fracture, local internal bleeding occurs, blood stasis, swelling and pain occur. At this time, taking Panax notoginseng tablets can constrict local blood vessels, shorten coagulation time, and increase thrombin, which is very appropriate. However, one week after the fracture healing, the bleeding has stopped and the damaged tissue has begun to repair, and the repair requires a large amount of blood supply. If you continue to take Panax notoginseng tablets, the local blood vessels will be in a state of contraction, and the blood circulation will be blocked, which is not conducive to fracture healing.
