How to overcome shyness

How to overcome shyness

The psychology of shyness is quite common in life. There are many reasons causing shyness. It is somewhat hereditary, and is also closely related to some psychological blows, family environment, and social background. If you want to overcome the psychology of shyness, you should first establish good confidence, practice dealing with all kinds of people, and be a more thoughtful person. In this way, you can gradually improve the psychology of shyness.

How to overcome shyness

1. Build confidence.

Young people should not always deny themselves in social interactions, compare others' strengths with their own weaknesses, and let inferiority complex control them. Believe that you can do it and take a proactive attitude when encountering problems. When you speak your first words and take your first step bravely, you may feel shy. At this time, you should remember that shyness does not mean failure. Winners often have more courage than losers. When you boldly try to interact with others, you will feel that reality is much simpler and easier than you imagined.

2. Learn to deal with all kinds of people

Show yourself at critical moments. You must train yourself to have the courage and ability to deal with people of different personalities, temperaments and ages. When you attend gatherings or social gatherings, you should be good at finding opportunities to chat with people around you, and be brave enough to express yourself at critical moments. For example, hosting meetings, parties, lectures, etc., will make those who don’t know you or even look down on you take notice of you.

3. Be a caring person

Write down the things that make you feel uncomfortable. When you write down your fears and worries, you will find that they seem incredible and completely unnecessary. But it is an extremely effective self-psychotherapy method, and you can prepare yourself to overcome it in advance. For example, when you are giving a speech, your hands will shake when you hold the manuscript. In that case, you might as well clip the manuscript on a writing board so that your hands won’t shake when you hold it. Another example is going to a job interview. Maybe you are worried that you will lack the ability to respond during a conversation. In that case, you might as well guess how the other person will ask questions before the conversation, think about your answers, and even practice them tirelessly by talking to yourself. This way you can remain fearless and handle the situation with ease.

4. Keep yourself in a relaxed state at all times.

Shy people are often overly concerned about how their behavior will cause others to react, and therefore are often in a state of tension. When you are in a shy or nervous atmosphere when interacting with others, try to use jokes or humor to comfort yourself. When you blush, try to forget it and don't worry about whether others will care - in fact, in the eyes of others, you are not as embarrassed as you think, so let them pay attention. If you can focus on the people or things you should, you should gradually forget your discomfort. Psychologists believe that relaxation is the key to overcoming shyness.

5. Change your body language.

Shy people often give the impression of being aloof and cold, but in fact they are deeply timid, lonely and eager to communicate. However, because of their appearance, people are unable to understand this information, and instead respond with distance and the same coldness and disdain, which makes the shy person feel even more uneasy. The easiest way to change this situation is to change your body language. Among all the body languages in interpersonal communication, the most charming one is smile. A smile is a sign of friendliness and confidence. Smiling can help you get out of embarrassing situations, shorten the emotional distance between you and others, resolve misunderstandings between friends, and at the same time, smiling can reduce your feeling of shyness.

6. Take it step by step.

Just getting some advice from experts or listening to your friends' successful social experiences won't help you completely overcome shyness overnight. The truth is that deep down you still feel shy. However, as long as you continue to communicate with people and work hard to overcome shyness, you will have confidence and a generous smile.
