Dark neck during pregnancy

Dark neck during pregnancy

After a woman becomes pregnant, her body will undergo many changes due to changes in estrogen. Some subtle physical changes can easily make people feel at a loss, such as the darkening of the neck during pregnancy. In fact, there are many reasons why the neck becomes darker during pregnancy. In addition to the estrogen mentioned above, even ultraviolet rays when you are not pregnant are an important factor in the darkening of the neck. And it is not just the neck that is prone to darkening.

Increased estrogen

After pregnancy, the pituitary gland in a woman's body secretes more melanocyte-stimulating hormone. The increased estrogen and progesterone have a stimulating effect on melanocytes, increasing melanin, leading to pigmentation in the nipples, areola, linea alba, vulva, etc. of pregnant women, making them darker.

In addition, the cheekbones, periorbital area, forehead, upper lip and nose of pregnant women will also be affected, resulting in butterfly-shaped spots, called chloasma of pregnancy, which will disappear on their own after delivery.

UV stimulation

If pregnant women go out without taking proper sun protection measures, the ultraviolet rays in the sun will stimulate the melanin in the skin and cause the skin to darken.

Darkening of the skin during pregnancy

1. Areas such as the neck, armpits, and abdomen will not only become dark as if they were not washed clean, but may even develop some ugly lines. Pregnant mothers who love beauty can try to cover these parts.

2. Nipple and areola After pregnancy, pregnant mothers will find that the areola and nipple appear darker. This is because the increased secretion of hormones and progesterone causes the precipitation of melanin in the areola and nipple areas.

3. The most obvious change on the face is that it becomes darker. Pregnant women will develop chloasma of pregnancy on their faces in the middle and late stages of pregnancy until the end of the pregnancy. This is caused by changes in the melanocytes that produce melanin under the skin around the eyes. External stimuli such as ultraviolet rays can also accelerate the precipitation of melanin.

What to do if your skin turns dark during pregnancy

1. It will fade away after delivery. It is normal for expectant mothers’ skin to darken during pregnancy. Expectant mothers do not need to worry too much. Generally, a few months after delivery, the areas with pigmentation during pregnancy are likely to gradually fade, and the skin will slowly return to its normal color. However, for some women, pregnancy spots do not disappear completely.

2. Do a good job of basic skin care. If expectant mothers want to make their skin whiter, they can use some basic skin care methods. Of course, you should use special skin care products for pregnant women, and just focus on cleansing, moisturizing and hydrating the skin. For some stubborn stretch marks, you can use effective stretch mark removal products.

3. Pay attention to sun protection. When expectant mothers go out, they should take sun protection measures, such as applying sunscreen, holding a parasol, wearing a sun hat, etc., so as to reduce the stimulation of ultraviolet rays to the skin and slow down the deposition of melanin.
