Symptoms of lacunar infarction

Symptoms of lacunar infarction

Lacunar infarction is a relatively common disease among the elderly, which often occurs in people over the age of 50. Maybe we have never heard of this disease before, but if there are elderly people in our family, it is better to popularize knowledge in this area to avoid being unaware of the symptoms when they occur and missing the best time for treatment.

The most common cause of lacunar infarction is hypertensive arteriosclerosis. Except for a few caused by microembolism, most are due to the degeneration of the walls of small arteries in the brain caused by the influence of long-term hypertension, which makes the lumen narrower and causes occlusion of small arteries under the inducement of certain hemodynamic factors or changes in blood components.

my country is a country with a high prevalence of hypertension, so this type of cerebral infarction is very common. Its clinical manifestation is that the basal ganglia and brainstem deep in the brain are important pathways for many nerve fiber bundles and are the bridge that connects the brain and somatic nerves. If lacunar infarction occurs in these pathways, it will cause blockage of certain nerve conduction and produce symptoms such as movement, sensory or language disorders. Because the cavity is very small, sometimes only the motor fibers or sensory fibers are affected, resulting in pure motor hemiplegia, or only sensory impairment of one half of the body without hemiplegia.

However, not all cavities that occur will cause symptoms. Only those that affect important neural pathways or neural structures will show symptoms. Otherwise, there may be no symptoms at all.

Effective control of hypertension and various types of cerebral arteriosclerosis can reduce the possibility of lacunar stroke and is the key to preventing this disease. For people who do not have any symptoms and appear normal after physical examination by a doctor, the doctor should make a specific analysis based on the film, and do not simply assume that it is a cerebral infarction. On the other hand, even if it is a lacunar infarction, there is no need to worry because it does not cause serious harm. As long as you take preventive measures seriously under the guidance of a doctor, you can reduce the chance of recurrence.
