Can I drink tea after taking cefuroxime?

In real life, cephalexin is an antibiotic drug that is effective in treating inflammation and infection in the body. Tea is a common drink in real life, but you cannot drink tea after taking cephalexin. Since tea contains a high amount of tannic acid, it will easily decompose the efficacy of the drug and reduce the effect of treating the disease.

Can I drink tea after taking ceftriaxone?

1. Can I drink tea after taking ceftriaxone?

It is generally believed that medicines cannot be taken with tea because the tannic acid contained in tea may react chemically with the medicines, thereby reducing the efficacy of the medicines.

It is best not to drink tea after taking medicine, because the medicine we take is basically synthesized by chemical elements. Tea contains an acid. If we drink tea after taking medicine, this acid will react with the medicine to produce precipitation, which will have an impact on people. The chemical components contained in tea will not only reduce or affect the efficacy of the medicine, but also produce some side effects, so don't drink tea after taking medicine.

2. What should I pay attention to when taking ceftriaxone?

1. Choose medication according to the disease

Generally, if the infection is relatively mild, oral medication should be chosen; only when the infection is relatively severe, intravenous medication should be used. Usually intravenous drip is used, and push injection is used as little as possible. Because the drug is administered by push injection, it quickly enters the bloodstream and once an adverse reaction occurs, the administration cannot be stopped. However, with intravenous drip, even if the drip is faster, there is still a chance to terminate the drug administration.

2. Do not mix with other drugs

In principle, antibiotics cannot be mixed with any other drugs at will, even if they are both antibiotics.

3. Adjust the dosage according to renal function

Most cephalosporins are excreted through the kidneys, so for patients with moderate or above renal insufficiency, the dosage should be appropriately adjusted according to the degree of renal damage. Patients with moderate or severe liver dysfunction should also adjust the dosage of drugs such as cefoperazone and ceftriaxone appropriately.

3. What are the contraindications of taking ceftriaxone?

Avoid drinking alcohol or consuming alcoholic beverages during medication and within 72 hours after treatment. Some other drugs, such as cephalosporin antibiotics, cefoperazone, ceftriaxone, cefotaxime, etc., will cause similar reactions if they come into contact with alcohol. The reaction time can be 5 minutes after drinking, usually about 30 minutes. When ethanol (alcohol) enters the body, it is first converted into acetaldehyde by alcohol dehydrogenase in the body, and then converted into acetic acid by acetaldehyde dehydrogenase. If acetaldehyde accumulates in the body, it will cause discomfort. At this time, these drugs combine with acetaldehyde dehydrogenase in the body, inhibiting the activity of the enzyme, so that acetaldehyde cannot be metabolized quickly, but accumulates in the body, resulting in a disulfiram-like reaction.

Patients using the above-mentioned drugs must strictly follow the doctor's advice and not drink alcohol for at least 10 days, otherwise severe cases may induce acute liver damage, myocardial infarction, heart failure, and even death.
